Marshall girls take second place in Waconia

WACONIA — The Marshall Track and Field team competed in Waconia on Thursday. The girls took second with 64 points, placing them 17 points behind first-place Waconia. The boys finished in third with 40 points, behind first-place Waconia and second-place Orono.

The races started with both the Marshall boys and girls relay squads winning the 4×800 relay. The girls team — consisting of Ally Sample, Katelyn Leibfried, Taleigha Bigler and Anna Kuecker — ran a 10:02, currently the third-best outdoor time in the state for the event.

The Marshall girls team also had relays that took second and third in the event. The relay team consisting of Avery Schneekloth, Oakley Schneekloth, Elsie Deutz and Landry Graven was second with a time of 11:05.14. In third place with a time of 12:12.6 was the relay team consisting of Gracelyn Foster, Cameen McFarquhar, Sydney Towne, Ahnya Schlenner.

The boys 4×800 teams also took home the top two spots in their race. The relay team of Mykel Paulson, Sam Deutz, Ethan Bly and Josh Liebfried took first with a time of 8:26.82, currently the second-best outdoor time this season in the state. The relay team of Kohen Holcomb, Chase Werner, Landon Marthaler and Jordan Duscher took second with a time of 9:26.47.

Aidan Schuerman had a good day in the hurdle events. He took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.37. He also took second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 44.12.

Mickey Hess also was top three in two events. Hess placed third in the open 100-meter dash with a time of 11:56. Later in the meet, Hess finished in second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.6.

The Marshall relay teams consisting of Alexi Schneider, Averi Schneider, Chioma Onyeaghala and Makayli Burrell took second in both the 4×100 and 4×200.

Marshall distance crew had a good day in the open events. In the girls’ 1600, Marshall Katelyn Leibfried took second with a time of 5:48.70 and Landry Graven came in third behind her with a time of 5:55.66. Josh Liebfried took home another first place on the day as he won the boys 1600 with a time of 4:46.75. Sydney Towne took third place in the open 400-meter dash with a time of 1:11.38. Sam Deutz finished third in the boys 3200 with a time of 10:02.90.

Two of Marshall’s state champion runners won their races as Taleigha Bigler won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.94 and Ally Sample won the 3200 with a time of 11:43.5.

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams finished off the day how they started it by winning their relays. Like in the 4×800 relays, both Marshall squads won the 4×400 relays. On the girls’ side, the relay team of Peyton Boeck, Avery Schneekloth, Katelyn Liebfried and Anna Kuecker won the girls’ race with a time of 4:21.8. On the boys’ side the relay team consisting of Mykel Paulson, Ethan Bly, Josh Leibfried and Alex Franson won with a time of 3:37.28.

Marshall had several top-three performances in the field events. Eighth-grader Brooklyn Purrington was first in the high jump with a winning height of 4’10“. On the boy’s side Jack Meier placed third with a jump of 5’10”.

Autumn Deutz won the girls pole vault with a height of 9-0 Peyton Boeck took third in the triple jump with a jump of 31-01.25. Chioma Onyeaghala placed second in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 16-04.

Marshall throwers had a great day at the meet as they had several outstanding performances.

Sisters Brooke and Paige Gillingham both finished in the top 3 in the discus and shot put. Brooke took home first place in discus with a throw of 94-11 while Paige finished in third with a throw of 82-7. Paige won the shot put event with a put of 35’0″ while Brooke got third with a put of 27-05.

Cesar Guzman won the boys discus throw with a throw of 106-6 and then took second place in the shot put with a put of 39-11.5.

Marshall will come home for their next meet as they compete in Marshall at the SMSU Track on Monday.
