Canby boys claim runner-up finish in Pipestone

PIPESTONE — The Canby golf team just shy of taking down Pipestone Area in the Arrows’ home tournament on Tuesday night. The Lancers fell two strokes back of the home team to settle for a runner-up finish in the four-team tournament.
Murray County Central was the only team to field a team score on the girls side, winning by default.
On the boys side, Pipestone Area had the low score with 169 strokes while Canby finished at 171. Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton rounded out the podium at 183 while Murray County Central finished with 200 strokes.
Canby’s Jack Abrahamson was the top individual in the tournament, finishing his day with a 37 behind a pair of birdies on holes five and six. He finished three strokes ahead of runners-up Will DeBates of Pipestone and Jared Fischer of SWC/E.
Isaac Bollerud was the next Lancer to score, tying Pipestone’s Max Taubert in sixth place with 43 strokes, while Brady Hulzebos tied Murray County Central’s Lucas Kuball and Pipestone’s Brayden Burmeister for eighth with 44 strokes. Dylan Houseman rounded out Canby’s scorers with 47 strokes.
On the girls’ side, MCC finished with 204 strokes to claim the team title.
The Rebels took each of the top two spots with sophomore Rachel Huso carding 45 strokes and junior Ava Johnson recording 46.
Lizzie Daniels and Lauren Larson rounded out the Rebels’ scorers in fifth place and sixth place respectively. Daniels finished the day with 54 strokes while Larson scored 59.
Maddison Richter finished in third place for Canby. The eighth grader had a par on the seventh hole and finished with a 48.
Canby will next compete at Granite Run Golf Course on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
MCC will resume competition on Thursday when it heads to Town & Country Golf Club in Fulda on Thursday.
HLOF/WWG splits in Mountain Lake
MOUNTAIN LAKE — The Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove golf team split its tournaments at Mountain Lake on Tuesday, winning on the girls side and finishing as the boys runner-up.
On the girls side, The Coyotes put together a team score of 245 to beat out Mountain Lake’s 273. Hills-Beaver Creek also sent individuals to compete.
Marenna Bang was the top individual on the day. Her score of 53 beat out Mountain Lake runner-up Nevaeh Ott by six strokes.
Ava Herding and Marissa Becker claimed fourth and fifth with a 61 and 62 respectively while Cadey Brown rounded out the Coyotes’ scorers in seventh place with 69 strokes.
On the boys side, HLOF/WWG finished with a total of 198 strokes while Mountain Lake won at 184. Hills-Beaver Creek finished with a team score of 230.
Nathan Kueny led the way for the Coyotes as the individual champion with a score of 43 on the day. He finished one stroke ahead of Mountain Lake runner-up Layken Marcy. The Wolverines took each of the next four places after Kueny to control the leaderboard.
Neil Kuehl tied Mountain Lake’s Grant Oakland for fifth at 48 strokes while Mason Ommen and Ian Bumgardner placed seventh and eighth for the Coyotes with 52 and 55 strokes respectively.
HLOF/WWG will next complete at Town & Country Golf Club in Slayton on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Fulda. They will be hosting Murray County Central.
