Rost, Boike named Camden MVPS
Larson, Johnston also named Coaches of the Year in Camden's All-Conference list
The Camden Conference announced its boys basketball All-Conference teams in a press release from conference secretary and treasurer Mike Dammann on Friday with Minneota’s Max Rost and Dawson-Boyd’s Brayson Boike being named Most Valuable Player for their respective divisions.
Rost, a junior, finished the season with a team-leading 14.9 points per game on a 45.4 effective field goal percentage. His 5.3 assists per game with a 2-to-1 turnover-to-interception ratio was also a team-high.
For the Blackjacks, Boike averaged 25.8 points per game in his junior season on 54% from the field and 40% from 3-point range. His 11.5 rebounds were also a team-high and his two blocks per game were second among Blackjacks to Drew Hjelmeland’s 2.5.
In addition to Rost as the MVP, Minneota led the Camden South with four All-Conference selections. Fellow seniors Sawyer DeSmet, Ryan Dalager and Peyton Sheik each also got the nod.
DeSmet led the Vikings on the glass with 12.2 total rebounds and 6.2 offensive rebounds per game. Dalager spaced the floor with a 42.9% 3-point clip and 4.5 assists per game while Sheik was one of three Vikings, alongside Rost and Dalager, to average double-figure points over the course of the season.
In the North, Dawson-Boyd tied MACCRAY with three selections. Hjelmeland also received All-Conference honors with 17.5 points per game and 8.8 rebounds. He also shot 54% from the field and 40% from long range. Gunner Liebl also received the nod with 18.4 points per game on 56/39/65 shooting splits and a team-leading 4.2 assists per game.
Carson Stratmoen also received an honorable mention acknowledgment with his 38% 3-point rate.
Boike and Hjelmeland were both juniors this year while Liebl and Stratmoen are coming off their sophomore and freshman seasons.
In addition to having the division MVPs, Minneota and Dawson-Boyd each had the coach of the year for their respective divisions. Chad Johnston led Minneota’s improvement from an 8-win mark last year to a 22-8 record and a subsection championship game appearance this season.
Cory Larson coached the Blackjacks to a 26-3 record and a Camden Conference championship this year. The Blackjacks were ranked No. 2 in Class A for nearly the entire season before getting upset by the fourth-seeded Minneota Vikings in the subsection semifinals.
Michael Tol, Kolton Duis and Zach Ourada each received All-Conference honors for Canby. Duis and Tol were the team’s leading scorers with 17.1 and 16.1 points respectively while Ourada also averaged double figures with 10.8 points per game. Duis’ 6.1 rebounds per game were also a team-high while Ourada led the team on the defensive end with 1.5 steals per game.
Trevor Smith and Alex Munson were the dynamic duo for Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s explosive offense. Smith averaged 25.9 points per game on the season while Munson added 17.4 points while also leading the team with 9.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. Both Smith and Munson were in their junior season this year.
Drew Almich and Braylon Breyfogle received all-conference honors for Yellow Medicine East and Lakeview.
