Plante, Renslow selected to Big South All-Conference teams
The Big South Conference released its All-Conference teams in a Monday press release. Among the players honored on the 13-player first team were Marshall’s Owen Renslow and Talan Plante.
The first-team nods mark the second year in a row that both Plante and Renslow made the Big South All-Conference team. Plante, a senior, was also selected to the 2021-22 team while Renslow, a junior, will have the opportunity to match Plante’s mark next year.
Plante finished his senior season sixth in the conference with 54 points. His 24 goals on the season also put him ninth on the conference leaderboard. Both marks are notable upticks from his previous single-season highs of 39 goals and 11 points that he set his junior season.
Renslow scored 30 goals on the season, good for third in the conference behind Luverne’s Owen Sudenga with 42 and New Ulm’s Austin Uecker with 39. Renslow’s goal total was more than double that of last season, in which he finished with 14 in his debut season on varsity. Renslow also was top 10 in the Big South in points with 53.
The Marshall boys hockey team went 14-11 in the regular season and put together a 9-7 conference record of 9-7 to finish fifth out of nine teams.
After a solid regular season, Marshall showed its potential in the postseason, taking down fourth-seeded Mankato West in the section quarterfinals 3-2 and pulling off an upset over top-seeded Luverne in the semifinals, 3-2. The Tigers’ season ended in the section championship with a 4-2 loss to New Ulm.
