The Marshall Pee Wee A team participated at the state tournament in Shakopee, Minn. the weekend before last, finishing the tournament in sixth place.

The Tigers punched their ticket to state after finishing as the South Region runner-up two weeks prior.

The team kicked off play against No. 3 Warroad. Marshall couldn’t get anything going against a very talented Warroad team and lost a tough opening-round game 8-0.

Marshall lost defenseman Cale Erickson for the remainder of the tournament when he went into the corner and was tangled up with a Warroad player in the third period. Erickson went into the boards hard and sustained a fractured wrist.

With the opening-round loss, Marshall moved into the consolation bracket and was paired with Edina on Saturday. Marshall jumped out to a quick start with a pair of goals from Morgan Rokeh. Edina battled back and was able to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the second period.

Just over two minutes into the third period Ty Stelter put away a loose puck in front of the net off a shot by Bennett Kimman to make the game 3-2 in favor of the Tigers.

Edina wasn’t done as they forced a turnover and scored the tying goal with under two minutes to go in regulation.

Just over halfway through the overtime period, Rokeh gathered a loose puck and drove around the Edina defender and slid the puck past the Edina goalie to complete a hat trick and win the game for Marshall.

The win put Marshall into the consolation championship against Park Cottage Grove.

Bennett Kimman was put the Tigers on the board in the first period but Marshall found itself down 2-1 at the end of the frame.

After a scoreless second period, it was Rokeh again who found the back of the net for Marshall to tie the game at 2-2 in the third.

Cottage Grove scored two more goals in the third, forcing Marshall to pull their goalie to gain a man advantage. Cottage Grove was able to score on the empty net and seal the 5-2 victory for the Wolfpack.

The Tigers finished their regular season with a 43-9-3 record. In addition to playing in the state tournament, the team had three tournament championships in Moorhead, Marshall and New Hope and finished as runner-up in both the District 5 and South Region tournaments.

This was Marshall’s third straight year sending a team to the State Tournament.

The Tigers were coached by Quinn A. Horvath with assistant coach Adam Hess and manager Chris Zent.
