Tol, Duis combine for 42 in Lancers’ win over LQPV

MADISON — Michael Tol and Kolton Duis combined for 42 points on Friday night as the Canby boys basketball team picked up its third straight win by a margin of 82-59 against Lac qui Parle Valley.
Both Tol and Duis were efficient with their shooting on the night. Tol shot 4-of-7 from 3-point range while Duis shot 3-of-8. Tol finished with a game-high 23 points on 13 shots while Duis added another 19 points on 14 shots.
Beyond their scoring prowess, Tol also finished with a game-high six assists while Tol’s five rebounds tied him with Cayden Anderson for second on the team behind Evan Engesmoe’s eight.
Dylan Houseman stole the ball three times in the game to help the Lancers to a 12-13 advantage in the turnover battle.
The Lancers led by as many as 28 points in the win.
Canby (6-3) will look to pick up its fourth straight victory when it goes on the road to take on Lakeview on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
MCC 88, Edgerton 67
SLAYTON — Murray County Central defeated Edgerton on Friday in a Red Rock Conference boys basketball game.
Bryce Hoekman led MCC with 23 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and five assists. Ross Engelkes added 15 points, five steals and four assists. Aidan Swenson had 12 points and six rebounds also for MCC, while Aidan Kierks scored 10 points, three rebounds and six assists.
MCC (6-5, 4-1) will play at Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (5-5, 3-2) on Saturday.
SWC 55, RRC 41
LAMBERTON — Southwest Minnesota Christian downed Red Rock Central on Friday in a Red Rock Conference boys basketball game.
Isaac Simonson led RRC with 20 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Jayden Lang scored 13 points and added six rebounds.
RRC (5-7, 1-5) will host Wabasso (3-6, 0-5) on Saturday.
MACCRAY 82, YME 34
CLARA CITY — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team had no answer for MACCRAY on Friday night, falling 82-34 to the Wolverines.
DJ Whitebuffalo and Drew Almoch were the Sting’s leading scorers with 11 points each. No other YME players scored more than 4 points.
Andrew Flaten dished out four assists in the game while Whitebuffalo, Almich and Eric Jimenez each grabbed seven rebounds. Almich also had a block.
YME falls to 1-9 with the loss. They came into the game coming off their first win of the year, a 59-53 win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Dec. 28.
YME will look to turn its luck around when it returns home for a game against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
HBC 61, WWG 48
HILLS — Hudsen Jenniges’ 19 points weren’t enough to pick up a win on Friday night as Westbrook-Walnut Grove fell 61-48 against Hills-Beaver Creek.
Drew Swanson added 12 and 10 points respectively while Neil Kuehl was the only other player with multiple field goals with 5 points.
After picking up its third straight loss, WWG falls to 1-8. It’ll next host Edgerton on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Wabasso 56, TMB 52
TRACY — Anistasia Smith scored a game-high 20 points on Friday night to pave the way for the Wabasso girls basketball team’s narrow 56-52 win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
Smith shot 9-of-13 from the field in the win while also grabbing eight rebounds, trailing onlySara Carlson’s 15 boards.
Avery Carlson was the game’s second-leading scorer with 15 points. She also was the only rabbit with multiple 3-pointers, shooting 2-of-4, and dished out a team-high five assists to tie Sara Carlson.
Melaina Ankrum and Hailey Gernentz each distributed five assists for the Panthers. The duo were also TMB’s leading scorers with 13 and 9 points respectively.
Smith impacted the defensive side of the ball for Wabasso with five steals while Ankrum had six for TMB. Neither team had a block on the night.
Gernentz grabbed seven rebounds for TMB while Aurri Johnson, Allison Edwards Gretchen Lanoue each grabbed another six. Lyla Kittelson grabbed seven boards for Wabasso.
Wabasso snaps a five-game skid with the win to improve to 3-8 while TMB ends its two-game win streak to fall to 3-7. The Rabbits will head to Lamberton to face Red Rock Central today at 6 p.m. while TMB will next host Southwest Minnesota Christian on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. for the second of three straight home games.
THURSDAY’S GAMES
MACCRAY 81, YME 49
GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East girls basketball dropped its third straight game on Thursday night with an 81-49 defeat at the hands of MACCRAY.
Despite the loss, Bayli Sneller had a terrific shooting performance. She knocked down three 3-pointers in each half and finished with a team-high 21 points in the game. Alana Almich added another 14 points with a pair of 3-pointers.
For MACCRAY, Brielle Janssen was an unstoppable force with 40 points in the game.
Yellow Medicine East falls to 3-9 with the loss. They’ll go on the road to face the 0-13 Ortonville Trojans on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
