The No. 9AA Marshall Tigers wrestling team improved their season record to 19-3 with two wins on Tuesday night in Minneota.

In the battle of Tigers, the Tigers from Marshall emerged as the king of the jungle with a 39-24 victory over the Tigers of Hutchinson. At 107 pounds No. 10AA Lincoln Christenson started the night off for Marshall with a win by 19-4 technical fall. Landon Marthaler answered a pin by Hutchinson at 114 pounds with a pin of his own to give Marshall an 11-6 lead after the 121-pound match.

At 127 pounds Dawson DeCamp battled No. 2AA Logan Schwanz in a hard-fought match with Schwanz coming out of the battle with a 10-6 win. After a forfeit victory by No. 1AA Dylan Louwagie, Hutchinson would go on to win the next two matches as returning state qualifiers Max Martin and Raydon Bipes defeated Tyson Louwagie and Colin Klenken by decisions at 139 and 145 pounds to make the team score 17-15 in favor of Marshall.

At 152 pounds Brayden Chandler got Marshall back on track with a first-period pin. Marshall’s No. 4AA Tate Condezo followed Chandler’s effort with a first-period pin of his own at 160 pounds. The pin by Condezo marked his 100th career pin.

“Pinning is the ultimate goal when you step on the mat. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m always looking for points and take opportunities when they come,” Condezo said when asked about the milestone.

At 172 pounds Hutchinson’s No. 5AA Luke Hoag defeated Tucker Fiene by a score of 12-7 in a match between returning state entrants. With a 29-18 lead going into 189 pounds, the Marshall Tigers needed only a decision from junior Aidan Mattison to clinch the dual. Mattison would do even more than that with a first-period pin over Conner Kurth. At 215 pounds No. 10AA Gavin Schaefer extended Marshall’s lead with a major decision victory over Larkun Kurth before AJ Haas fell by pin to Evan Pierce at Heavyweight to close out the dual.

After taking down 3AA foe Hutchinson, Marshall closed out their night by defeating the Minneota Vikings 39-18. Once again Christenson started off the winning for the Tigers with an 8-3 decision over Blake Mead at 107 pounds. At 114 pounds Minneota’s No. 10A Kaden Lasnetski gave Minneota a 6-4 lead with a pin over Levi Kraft. Marshall’s Landon Marthaler once again answered a pin with a pin of his own at 121 pounds against Landon Pohlen. Minneota was able to bounce back and make the team score 10-9 after 127 pounds as No. 5A Adam DeVlaeminck defeated DeCamp by an 8-4 decision.

With the dual meet at just a one-point advantage, the Tigers would rally off three wins in a row to widen their lead to 22-9. At 133 pounds, Dylan Louwagie improved his season record to 35-0 with his second win of the night pinning the Minneota’s Randy Sorensen. Tyson Louwagie would extend Marshall’s lead to 19-9 after 139 pounds by beating Mason Javers 7-0. At 145 pounds the Tigers Klenken utilized two takedowns to win 5-0 over Brock Fier.

At 152 pounds, Minneota’s Destin Fier returned Minneota to the win column with a 6-2 victory over Chandler. Following the 152-pound victory by the Vikings the Tigers answered with wins in the next four weight classes. Marshall’s Condezo earned his second first-period pin of the night against Brody Lozinski at 160 pounds. At 172 pounds Fiene defeated Alex Depestel in a hard-fought 6-4 decision. Aidan Mattison added another victory to his night with a 13-7 win against Noah Gorecki at 189 pounds. In the match, Gorecki put Mattison on his back in a headlock, but Mattison was able to fight out of it and get a reversal to get back on top and earn the win. At 215 pounds, the Tiger wrestler once again had to fight off his back to earn the victory. Marshall’s Gavin Schaefer established a 4-0 lead after the opening period against Minneota’s Kyson Arndt. In the second period, Arndt locked up a cradle and turned Schaefer to his back to make the score 4-3. Schaefer was able to fight off his back and reverse another cradle attempt by Arndt and secure a pin of his own for the victory. In the final match of the night, Minneota’s Ryan Meagher pinned AJ Haas to make the final score 39-18.

The Tigers will return to action on Friday as they head to Pequot Lakes to wrestle three duals against foes from the northern part of the state.
