No. 5 Marshall 83, Worthington 46
WORTHINGTON — Taleigha Bigler did a little bit of everything for the Marshall girls basketball team on Friday night as the Tigers ran away with an 83-46 win over Worthington. The win gave the Tigers their 13th consecutive victory.
Bigler finished the game with 15 points — trailing only Reese Graven’s 18 points — on 3-of-8 shooting from 3-point range. Beyond her abilities as a scorer, her seven assists, 14 rebounds and seven steals were all game-highs. She turned the ball over just once.
The Tigers had the hot hand from 3-point range all night long. As a team, they shot 10-of-28 from beyond the arc. In addition to Bigler’s three makes, Graven and Kennedy Drake each made another pair of 3s. Drake tallied 14 points on the night while Paige Gillingham also finished in double figures with 11 points and a 3-pointer.
Reese Drake dished out six assists and stole the ball four times for Marshall while Graven added another six rebounds in the game.
Marshall (13-1) will play its third straight road game on Tuesday when it takes on Windom (12-3) at 7:15 p.m.
Minneota 67, LQPV 30
MINNEOTA — The Minneota girls basketball team picked up its fifth consecutive win on Friday night, taking down Lac qui Parle Valley 67-30. The Vikings have now won 10 of their last 11 games, the exception being a loss to No. 3 Hancock.
Kennedy Arndt led the Vikings to a 37-30 advantage on the glass on Friday night with 15 rebounds. Her eight offensive boards were more than the Eagles’ team total of seven. She also tied Kiersyn Hulzebos as the team’s second-leading scorer and set the tone on the defensive end with three blocks and a pair of steals.
Also making a defensive impact, Grace Hennen finished with six steals. On the offensive end of the court, she dished out five assists without a turnover and was second on the team on the glass with five rebounds.
Faith Myhre was the team’s leading scorer with 14 points.
With their 10th consecutive loss, LQPV falls to 1-13 on the season.
Minneota (13-2) will head to Elkton today to take on Sisseton, S.D. at 3:30 p.m. The Redmen are a perfect 9-0 on the season and have won each of their games by double digits.
TMB 90, Ortonville 37
TRACY — Kyli Carter led a group of four Panthers with 14 or more points on Friday night as the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team exploded for a 90-37 rout of Ortonville.
Carter scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the field while Melaina Ankrum added another 16 points on 4-of-13 shooting from 3-point range. Gretchen Lanoue and Hailey Gernentz finished with 15 and 14 points respectively.
Gernentz was an effective facilitator for the Panthers’ offense, dishing out eight assists with just one turnover. Katelyn Rupper and Marin Knott each also finished with five assists and no turnovers.
On the glass, Gernentz also led the Panthers with 10 rebounds, five on the offensive glass, to finish just two assists shy of a triple-double. Aurri Johnson also grabbed 10 boards while Ruppert notched another eight.
On the defensive end, Gernentz and Lanoue each had five steals while Carter, Knott and Ruppert added another four each.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton improves to 5-10 with the win and will remain at home to host Renville County West (1-12) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
RTR 60, RRC 20
LAMBERTON — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton girls basketball team made use of a balanced scoring effort on Friday night to run away with a 60-20 win over Red Rock Central.
Shae O’Leary led the Knights with 11 points on the night while Avery Schreurs added another 10. Dilyn Werkman and Addisyn Serryn each added another 8 points while six more Knights scored 4 points in the game.
O’Leary shot 4-of-7 from the field and also knocked down a pair of 3-pointers while Schreurs shot 4-of-6 from the field. O’Leary’s five rebounds were also a team-high.
Madi Burns and Serryn each dished out three assists on the night. Serryn also tied Tatum Hess with a team-high three steals. Hess and Gabi Borresen each also notched a block on the defensive end.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton improves to 7-6 with the win while Red Rock Central falls to 1-13. The Knights will next host Edgerton (9-5) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. while the Falcons will host Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey (5-8) in Lamberton on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
WWG 58, HBC 48
WESTBROOK — After having its 10-game win streak snapped against Edgerton on Tuesday, the Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team found its stride again with a 58-48 victory against Hills-Beaver Creek on Friday night.
Addison Jenniges led the charge for the Chargers with 22 points on seven 3-pointers. Izzy Klumper was the team’s second-leading scorer with 13 points in the game while Abby Wiggins chipped in with another 8 points.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove (13-2) will head to Elkton today to face off against Arlington (S.D.) at 3:30 p.m. The Cardinals are 8-1 on the season and have won each of their last four games by 20 or more points.
MLAC 44, MCC 37
SLAYTON — Three scorers in double figures weren’t enough to put the Rebels on top Friday night as the Murray County Central girls basketball team fell 44-37 against Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey.
Kelli Miller led the Rebels with 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc while Ava Deacon and Jayda Hellewell each contributed another 10. No other Rebels made more than one shot on the day.
Hellewell also cleaned the glass for MCC. She finished with 17 rebounds, including 17 on the offensive glass. Still, MLAC outrebounded MCC 37-33.
Abby Overman was the team’s second-leading rebounder with five boards and she led the team with three assists in the game.
Ava Deacon finished with three steals while Hellewell and Blankenship each tallied another two.
Murray County Central falls to 6-8 with the loss and will next play on the road against Hills-Beaver Creek (7-4) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
KMS 70, YME 29
GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East girls basketball team couldn’t find its offensive rhythm on Friday night, falling 70-29 against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.
Ashley Luepke led the Sting with 7 points in the game while Bailey Mortenson and Bayli Sneller each added another 6.
Yellow Medicine East falls to 4-13 with the loss and will look to bounce back at home against Lakeview (9-8) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
