Klumper breaks WWG scoring record

WESTBROOK — Izzy Klumper scored 14 points in the Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team’s 74-20 win over Red Rock Central on Friday night to become the Chargers’ all-time leading scorer. The game moved her past Kate Hansen and Amy Faber’s previous mark of 1,411 points; Hansen tied Faber’s mark in 2003.
In addition to Klumper’s 14, Leah Carter led the Chargers with 20 points in the game while Abby Wiggins scored another 16 and Amelia Sikel and Riley Parker added 8 each.
Maia Scheffler led RRC with 7 points while Sydney Vogel added another 6 on a pair of first-half 3-pointers.
WWG improves to 15-3 on the year with the win and will next host Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (8-7) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Red Rock Central falls to 1-16 and will head to Edgerton on Tuesday at the same time.
Minneota 71, TMB 44
TRACY — Kenadi Arndt had a big defensive night to go along with a double-double on Friday to lead the Minneota girls basketball team to a 71-44 win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
On the offensive end of the court, Arndt scored 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting with three assists and no turnovers. She also grabbed eight of her game-high 14 rebounds on the offensive glass. On the defensive end of the court, Arndt’s seven steals and two blocks were both game-highs.
Dakoda Hennen led the Vikings’ scorers with 16 points in the game on 7-of-13 from the field. Kiersyn Hulzebos also added 14 points with a pair of 3-pointers while Grace Hennen scored another 11 points.
Hailey Gernentz and Kyli Carter were the only Panthers with more than 5 points on the night. Gernentz led the team with 14 points on 6-of-12 from the field while Carter added another 6 points.
Minneota held a 42-39 advantage on the glass in the game. In addition to Arndt, Emma Bottelberghe grabbed eight rebounds while Dakoda Hennen grabbed another five. Allison Edwards led TMB with 10 boards while Gernentz and Aurri Johnson each grabbed another six.
Grace Hennen and Gernentz led the game with four assists each while Melaina Ankrum and Marin Knott each finished with another three.
Minneota improves to 16-3 with the win while TMB falls to 6-12. The Vikings will look to pick up their third straight win when they host Pipestone (1-13) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. while TMB will look to avoid its third straight loss when it hosts Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (14-5) at the same time.
RTR 65, MLAC 57
MOUNTAIN LAKE — Shae O’Leary led the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton girls basketball team with 15 points on Friday night as the Knights pulled out a 65-57 win over Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey.
After scoring 6 first-half points, O’Leary drained three 3-pointers after the break to add another 9 to her total. Tatum Hess also scored 14 points with a pair of 3-balls for the Knights while Ally Nelson scored another 13.
RTR improves to 8-7 with the win and will head out to Westbrook to face Westbrook-Walnut Grove (15-3) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Canby 59, YME 35
GRANITE FALLS — Canby defeated Yellow Medicine East 59-35 Friday in a Camden Conference girls basketball game.
Addison Driessen led the Lancers with 17 points, while Emily Nelson had 12 points and five rebounds and Brynn Kockleman had 12 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Bailey Mortenson led The Sting led YME with 16 points, while Alana Almich had 6 points.
Canby (7-9, 7-5) travels to Montevideo on Monday. YME (4-15, 4-9) travels to Minneota on Friday.
Lakeview 59, RCW 52
RENVILLE — Lakeview High School defeated Renville County West 59-52 Friday in a Camden Conference girls basketball game.
Anah Schmidt led the Lakers with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Brynn Stensrud had 13 points, three rebounds and three steals.
Lakeview (12-8, 8-4) travels to Ortonville on Tuesday.
KMS 56, DB 48
DAWSON — Allison Estling’s 18 points weren’t enough to put the Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team over the top on Friday night as the Blackjacks fell 56-48 against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.
In addition to Estling’s scoring, Hayley Anderson added another 9 points for the Blackjacks while Claire Stratmoen added another 8. Stratmoen and Estling each drained a pair of 3-pointers.
Ayiana Hastad led Dawson-Boyd on the boards and on defense; her 11 rebounds and eight steals were both team-highs, as were her three assists. Anderson and Estling added another seven and six rebounds respectively, with Estling also recording four steals.
Dawson-Boyd falls to 5-11 on the season with the loss and will look to bounce back in Fulda against Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda (0-17) on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
A/E 58, MCC 42
SLAYTON — Taylor Larson’s efficient 14 points weren’t enough to get the Murray County Central girls basketball a win on Friday night as the Rebels fell 58-42 against Adrian-Ellsworth.
Larson shot 6-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 from long range in the game. Her five rebounds were also second on the team behind Jayda Hellewell’s six.
Kelli Miller also contributed 12 points for the Rebels on 4-of-11 shooting.
Avy Overman and Ava Deacon locked down the paint for MCC with two blocks each. Deacon also had four assists and a steal while Overman had a pair of steals.
Hellewell logged four steals in the game.
Murray County Central (7-10) will try to avoid its third consecutive loss when it hosts Wabasso (4-14) for the third of seven consecutive home games for the Rebels. Tipoff is slated for Monday at 7:15 p.m.
PREP BOYS BASKETBALL
Wabasso 67, YME 52
WABASSO — Noah Anderson scored a game-high 24 points on Friday night on 6-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc to lead the Wabasso boys basketball team to a 67-52 win over Yellow Medicine East. The win snapped a nine-game skid for the Rabbits.
In addition to Anderson’s scoring, Tristan and Tavyn Larson each added another 10 points while Brayden Guetter added another 8. Tristan was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field while Tavyn went 4-of-4 from 2-point range with a pair of 3-point misses. Guetter also added six rebounds and three assists.
Rickey Enney led the Sting with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting while DJ Whitebuffalo and Wakinyan GreyCloud added 14 and 11 points respectively. Enney and Whitebuffalo each dished out three assists while Connof Fagen and Andrew Flaten led the team on the glass with four rebounds each. GreyCloud also finished with four steals in the game.
Wabasso improves to 4-13 with the win and will host Sleepy Eye (12-4) on Monday at 7:30 p.m. while Yellow Medicine East falls to 1-15 and will try to avoid its eighth consecutive loss when it hosts No. 2 Dawson-Boyd (16-1) on Monday at 7 p.m.
