Dalager, Rost lead Vikings to victory vs. RCW

Minneota 84, RCW 52

RENVILLE — Ryan Dalager and Maax Rost combined for 42 points and 14 assists on Tuesday night as the Minneota boys basketball team ran away with an 84-52 victory against Renville County West. 

The duo each finished with seven dimes on the night and combined for a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. Rost’s 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting was a game-high while Dalager was right behind him with an extremely efficient 20 points on just 10 shots. He was particularly strong from beyond the arc, where he shot 6-of-9.

Sawyer DeSmet put together another double-double with 12 rebounds and 13 points. He led the Vikings to a 39-32 rebounding advantage in the game and his five offensive boards were a high-water mark on the day.

Lucas Rybinski finished in double figures with 11 points and also dished out six assists. As a team, Minneota finished with 29 assists and 17 turnovers. On the defensive end, they also stole the ball 12 times as a unit, led by three steals from Dalager and two each from DeSmet and Lincoln Jerzak.

Minneota (10-2) will head to Edgerton for its next matchup against Southwest Minnesota Christian (6-3) on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Canby 77, Lakeview 35

COTTONWOOD — Kolton Duis and Michael Tol were the dynamic duo for the Canby boys basketball team once again on Tuesday night, combining for 45 points in the Lancers’ 77-35 win over Lakeview. The win marks the Lancers’ fourth straight win.

Tol had the hot hand from long range on the night. In addition to making three of his four shots from inside the arc, he shot 5-of-12 from long range to finish with 21 points. Duis was the Lancers’ leading scorer, shooting 10-of-20 from the field for 24 points. Jack Abrahamson and Cayden Anderson each scored another 7 points.

Braylon Breyfogle led Lakeview with 13 points while Cody Helmke and Carson Boe added another 6 and 5 respectively.

Canby dominated the boards, finishing with a 41-20 advantage on the glass. Anderson led the way with 11 rebounds while Tol, Duis, Bryant Hansen and Evan Engesmoe each added another five. Helmke led the Lakers with eight rebounds, six of which were offensive, while Tyden Marczak added another six. Marczak also led Lakeview with two assists and four steals.

Dylan Houseman dished out a game-high four assists and stole the ball twice while Liam MacArthur added another three steals for Canby. Tol and Abrahamson each blocked a shot in the win.

Canby (7-3) will return to its home court for the first time since Dec. 14 to host Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (7-4) on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Lakeview (4-9) will wrap up its seven-game homestand on Friday with a matchup against No. 2 Dawson-Boyd (13-0).

RTR 84, MCC 59

SLAYTON — Andrew Meyers scored a game-high 21 points on Tuesday night to lead the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys basketball team to an 84-59 win over Murray County Central. The win is the Knights’ fourth in their last five games.

In addition to Meyers’ scoring efforts, Drew Werkman added another 17 points while Blake Christianson and Luke Schreurs each added another 12. Werkman also tied Christianson with a game-high eight assists and tied Carson Gylling with a game-high seven rebounds.

Bryce Hoekman led MCC with 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting on the night. His six rebounds were also a team-high while Ross Engelkes and Aidan Swenson each grabbed another five. Aidan Dierks also finished in double figures with 10 points.

Werkman had three blocks in the game while he, Gylling and Chase Christianson each had three steals as well. Hoekman led the Rebels defensively with three blocks.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (7-4) will return to its home court for a game against Hills-Beaver Creek (7-2) on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Murray County Central (6-7) will next head to Edgerton for a matchup against Southwest Minnesota Christian (6-3) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The game will come on the second night of a back-to-back for the Eagles, who are also hosting Minneota on Thursday.

No. 2 Dawson-Boyd 80, CMC 55

PRINSBURG — The No. 2 Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team had three scorers finish with 20 or more points on Tuesday night as they burst past Central Minnesota Christian for an 80-55 win.

Brayson Boike led the charge with a game-high 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting. Gunner Liebl was ultra-efficient with 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting while Drew Hjelmeland chipped in 20 points and spaced the floor with 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Liebl and Boike each also made a pair of 3-pointers.

Hjelmeland’s 10 rebounds led the Blackjacks to a 33-27 advantage on the glass while Liebl and Boike also grabbed seven and six rebounds respectively. Liebl’s five assists were also a game-high.

Liebl and Hjelmeland each had a block in the game while Boike had two. Boike also had a pair of steals, as did Kade Solem, while Liebl and Hjlemeland each had one steal.

Dawson-Boyd remains perfect at 13-0 with the win. They’ll look to keep their pristine record intact when they take on Lakeview (4-9) in Cottonwood on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

TMB 76, YME 64

GRANITE FALLS — Trevor Smith put together another monster scoring performance, finishing with 31 points on 11-of-22 shooting, to lead the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team to a 76-64 win over Yellow Medicine East on Tuesday night.

Smith also made four 3-pointers and led all players on the glass with 15 rebounds.

TMB held a 49-48 advantage on the glass on the night. Alex Munson and Aidan Swenhaugen also contributed eight and seven rebounds for TMB while Almich and Connor Fagen led YME with 12 and seven rebounds respectively.

Almich was the Sting’s leading scorer with 29 points while DJ Whitebuffalo was the game’s only other scorer in double figures with 10 points. Almich shot 10-of-22 from the field and 5-of-11 from 3-point range.

Munson and Noah Knakmuhs contributed six and five assists respectively while Whitebuffalo led the Sting with four. Smith also had a game-high three steals.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (7-5) will return to Tracy on Friday to host Central Minnesota Christian (5-5) at 7:30 pm.

Yellow Medicine East (1-10) will play the second of four consecutive home games on Friday when it hosts Lac qui Parle Valley (3-8) at 6 p.m. The Eagles are on a three-game skid and have lost six of their last seven games.

Edgerton 58, WWG 52

WESTBROOK — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys basketball team dropped its sixth consecutive game on Tuesday night, falling 58-52 against Edgerton.

Hudson Jenniges put together another big scoring night for the Chargers in the loss, scoring 26 points with a trio of 3-pointers. Kevin Curry and Neil Kuehl each added another 8 points.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove (1-9) will next head to Lamberton for a game against Red Rock Central (6-6) on Friday at 6 p.m.

MVL 81, Wabasso 51

NEW ULM — Minnesota Valley Lutheran downed Wabasso 81-51 Tuesday in a Tomahawk Conference boys basketball game.

Kyler Flunker and Ben Pearson led MVL with 22 points each.

Tavyn Larson and Tristan Larson each had 12 points for the Rabbits.

Wabasso (3-8, 0-6) will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Friday.
