REDWOOD FALLS — The Marshall wrestling team came out on top at the Redwood River Riot over the weekend, riding a pair of individual champions to a first-place finish at the 36-team tournament. 

Dylan Louwagie won in the 139-pound division for Marshall as did Tate Condezo in 160. 

Landon Marthaler also took third for the Tigers in 127 while Gavin Schaefer recorded his 60th career win en rout to a seventh-place finish in 215. As a team, nine of the Tigers’ 10 wrestlers placed and Marshall finished with a team total of 163.5 points.

Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle/Montevideo United finished shortly behind at 159.5 points while Holdingford rounded out the podium at 142.5. Tracy-Milroy-Balaton also placed fifth in the meet at 124 points while Minneota rounded out top-10 area teams at 90 points.

Daniel Gunlogson was the Blackjacks’ lone champion in 145 but United also had a pair of runners-up with Eli Olson in 107 and Ben Gunlogson in 127. Kameron Sather also took home the bronze in 152.

Eathan Martinez secured the status of tournament champion in the 215-pound division while reigning state champion Devin Carter placed second in the 133-pound division for TMB/WWG. They combined to score 54 points for their team.

Adam Devlaeminck placed fourth in 127 to lead Minneota while Kaden Lasnetski and Destin Fier placed fifth in and seventh in 114 and 160 respectively to lead the Vikings.

Canby tied Edina for 17th in the meet with 62 points. Nick Wagner contributed 20 of those points after placing third in 189.

Fulda/Murray County Central and Wabasso placed 24th and 26th with 47 and 33 points respectively while Red Rock Central rounds out area schools in 34th with 8.5 points. Kaston Clarke placed fourth for F/MCC in 107.

Marshall will wrestle in a triangular at Jackson County Central tonight at 5 p.m. before hosting Redwood Valley on Thursday at 6 p.m. Minneota will also wrestle tonight in Lamberton along with Luverne and Ortonville at Red Rock Central while Wabasso will host Springfield. 

TMB/WWG will host a triangular in Tracy on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. with Minneota while United will host Hutch and New Ulm in Montevideo on Thursday as well.
