TRACY — The Minneota boys basketball team finished its road matchup against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Tuesday night with five scorers in double figures. The balanced offensive attack paid off as the Vikings took down the Panthers 61-54 for their second straight win to start the season.
In their season-opening win against Canby, Max Rost and Lucas Rybinski led the Vikings with 23 and 18 points respectively. Tuesday, the Vikings had a new pair of leading scorers to show off their offensive versatility. Ryan Dalager led the team with 18 points in the game while Sawyer DeSmet added another 11. Rost, Rybinski and Peyton Sheik each chipped in another 10.
DeSmet also was a beast on the boards in the game. He grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds while Sheik grabbed another 11 and Dalager grabbed nine, leading Minneota to a 45-39 advantage on the glass.
Trevor Smith led the Panthers in rebounding with 10 boards while Alex Munson grabbed another nine. The duo also led TMB in scoring with 18 and 16 points in the game.
Smith was coming off a 36-point outing against Renville County West in which he shot 7-of-11 from 3-point range. The effort was enough to propel the Panthers to a 103-41 win over the Jaguars after they dropped their first two games of the year to Sleepy Eye and Sleepy Eye St. Mary.
Rost was the game’s passing leader with six assists and no turnovers while Munson finished with four assists and three turnovers.
The Minneota Vikings (2-0) will look to pick up a win in their home opener against Yellow Medicine East on Thursday while Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (1-3) will host Red Rock Central for the third of four consecutive home games.
