MAHA In the Crease: Seasons continue for Marshall youth hockey teams

Bantam A

The Marshall Bantam A opened the District 5 season this weekend with games in Luverne and Worthington. On Saturday, the Tigers had a tough fought game in Luverne, falling 7-2. The Bantam A team rebounded strong on Sunday, playing extremely well, leaving Worthington with their first win of the season, 12-1. The afternoon brought a strong opponent in returning Bantam A state runner-up Monticello. The Tigers played hard but fell to the Moose 4-0.

Pee Wee A

The Tigers traveled to the Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Apple Valley/Burnsville this past weekend. The Pee Wee A team had a strong weekend, finishing in fourth place overall. The Tigers went 1-0-1 on Friday with a 4-2 win over Hastings before tying host team Apple Valley/Burnsville 3-3. Two more games on Saturday found Pee Wee A 1-1 with a tough 4-3 win over Rock Ridge (Virginia) before meeting Cottage Grove in a semifinal game. The Tigers came up short, falling 6-2.

In the third place game on Sunday Pee Wee A battled Apple Valley/Burnsville again, but an open net goal ended the game 3-1 in favor of Apple Valley/Burnsville.

Over the five games the Tigers were led offensively by Grady Hess with five goals and two assists, while Callahan Jans added two goals and three assists. Brayson Ritter had 110 saves in net on the weekend.

Pee Wee B

The Pee Wee B team went 2-0-1 with wins over Sioux Falls Orange 1 and Worthington and a 1-1 tie with Sioux Falls Orange 2. The Tigers started off tying with Sioux Falls Orange 2 on Saturday. Brekken Parrie scored the lone goal. In the afternoon, the Pee Wee B team turned it on, defeating Sioux Falls Orange 1 7-2. Parrie led the way with two goals and two assists while Nehum Kelmm had a pair of goals and an assist. Alex Reaves, Braylon Oey and Griffin Leibfried each added a goal. Chase Renken and Charlie Grannes notched assists.

On Sunday, the Tigers moved to 3-0 in District 4 with a 5-2 win over Worthington on the road. A balanced attack had Klemm, Cohen Dwire, Wyatt Dorschner, Grannes and Oey each netting goals. Dwire added an assist in the win. Bentley Harrington was in net all three games, finishing with 62 saves over the three games.

12U Girls

The 12U Girls completed a three-game sweep over the weekend, defeating Sioux Falls (S.D.) in a home and away series before blanking Fairmont. On Saturday the Tigers traveled to Sioux Falls where they defeated the Flyers 8-3. On Sunday, the 12U girls were able to score two shutouts at home, defeating Sioux Falls 7-0 before shutting down Fairmont 3-0.

Squirt B Orange

Marshall Squirt B Orange faced off against Worthington on Sunday, falling to the Trojans 9-3. Drake Leibfried had a pair of goals for the Tigers while Carter Gratz had a pair of assists. Jayden Snyder had a goal and an assist to round out the scoring. Goalie Jayden Novosad finished with seven saves.

Squirt B White

Squirt B White hosted one game over the weekend, falling to Worthington 7-5 on Sunday. Max DeMuth led the team with two goals and one assist while Hudson Ogren and Chandler Stidman each tallied a goal and an assist. Brady Louwagie also had a goal for the tigers while Archer Deutz had 20 saves in the game.

10U Girls

On Saturday, the 10U Girls moved to 6-1 on the season with a 5-4 win over Minnesota River in Le Sueur. Avery Zent led the scoring with two goals and two assists while Brielle Hess had a pair of goals. Sophie Becker found the back of the net to round out the scoring. Finley Boerboom finished with eight saves on the day.
