The state champion Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team was honored with five players on the 2023 Red Rock Conference All-Area team in a press release on Sunday night.

Gabi Borresen, Abby Carr, Tatum Hess, Ally Nelson and Avery Schreurs were all selected to the first team. Schreurs was also one of three juniors selected to the team alongside Red Rock Central’s Maia Scheffler, Southwest Minnesota Christian’s Madison Fey and Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s Natalie Wahl. All 17 of the other first-team selections were seniors.

Borresen was versatile all season for the nights, leading the team with 1026 set assists while also contributing 75 kills and 306 digs. 

On the finishing end of Borresen’s assists, Carr had a team-high 491 kills while Nelson added another 308.

Schreurs’ led the Knights’ back row with 503 digs on the season while Hess split time between front and back row with 349 digs and 133 kills.

Camry Swanson was also selected as an honorable mention with 69 blocks this season, finishing only shy of Nelson’s 85.

In addition to Wahl, Addison Jenniges and Abby Wiggins were both selected to the All-Conference team. Jenniges finished the year with 794 assists, Wiggins led the Chargers’ back row with 317 digs and Wahl had a team-high 354 kills and was second on the team with 301 digs.

Ella Knakmuhs was also listed as an honorable mention.

Kate Slettum earned a first-team nod for Murray County Central while Abby Loosbrock and Emmi Peltola were both honorable mentions. Mercedes Meyers was also honored as an honorable mention.

RTR finished the year as the conference champion with a perfect 9-0 record in conference play. HLOF finished the year second at 8-1 while WWG took third at 7-2. MCC and RRC also placed seventh and eighth at 3-6 and 2-7 respectively.

Jenniges, Knakmuhs and Wiggins were all selected to the All-Academic team for WWG while Carr, Borresen and Swanson were selected for RTR. MCC also had a trio of honorees in Slettum Morgan Winter and Abby Overman while Myers and Ella Erickson each earned All-Academic status for RRC.
