Borreson, RTR roll past TMB 3-0

TYLER — The No. 4 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team cruised to a straight-sets victory over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton behind a big night from Gabi Borrseon on Tuesday 25-7, 25-21, 25-19.
Gabi Borreson facilitated the Knights’ offense with 22 set assists. She also had eight digs, second on the team to Avery Schreurs’ 10, and her three blocks tied her with Ally Nelson for a team-high.
Nelson and Abby Carr led the RTR offense with 10 and seven kills respectively. Carr also tallied six digs and a block.
Hailey Gernentz kept pace with Borreson, tallying 22 assists of her own for TMB, while also finishing with five digs and a service ace.
Kyli Carter led the Panthers’ front row with seven kills while Alivia Jensen and Allie Adams each had six.
Jensen also tied Gernentz and Piper Freeburg with five digs, putting them behind just Teagan Viessman’s six.
Tatum Hess had three service aces on the night as well as a pair of kills.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (3-1) will next play at the Southwest Minnesota Challenge volleyball tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Knights will open play at Marshall High School against St. Michael Albertville on Friday at 6:15 p.m. and will take on the winner or loser of Champlin Park and LeSueur-Henderson at 8:45 p.m.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (1-2) will join the Knights at the Southwest Challenge, opening the day at Marshall High School with a 5 p.m. match against Chaska. They’ll then take on either Northfield or Bloomington Jefferson at 7:30 p.m.
Windom Area 3, RRC 0
LAMBERTON — Addison Irlbeck and Ella Erickson’s solid night in the back row wasn’t enough to help the Red Rock Central volleyball team to a win on Tuesday night as the Falcons fell at home to Windom Area in straight sets, 25-8, 25-15, 25-20.
Irlbeck led the Falcons defensively with 14 digs while Erickson chimed in with another 11. Erickson was also 11-of-11 at the service line with an ace.
Mercedes Meyers and Mikayla Weis led the front row for RRC. Meyers had three blocks and a pair of kills while Weis had three kills and a pair of blocks. Abby Evans also had a pair of kills, an ace, and a team-high four set assists.
The Falcons had lost each of their first two matchups of the season against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and Renville County West in straight sets.
Red Rock Central (0-3) will host Cedar Mountain on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.

GRACEVILLE — The Dawson-Boyd volleyball team fell short in its season-opener against Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Tuesday night, losing in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-22, 25-16.
The Blackjacks (0-1) will host Murray County Central for their home opener on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
