Boe places top-10 at Warrior Cup
Marshall's Ehlers also places top-30 at 'Sota Tour event
ELK RIVER – Lakeview junior Carson Boe and Marshall junior Luke Ehlers competed in the PGA Minnesota Junior Golf Warrior Cup at Elk River Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon, both notching top-30 finishes in the 64-player event.
Boe shot a 4-over 76 on the day, putting him in a tie for 10th place with Edina’s Matt Mullmann, Duluth’s Kyle Peterson, Avon’s Zach Kreuzer and Grand Forks, N.D.’s Ross Koerner.
Boe had a pair of birdies on the front nine but also had four bogeys, including a double bogey on hole six. Yet, he recovered nicely on the back nine, shooting just 1-over on the stretch.
Boe was also tied for the third-best golfer in the field on par 5s, shooting a cumulative 2-under.
Ehlers finished the day at 9-over, putting him in a tie for 28th. Like Boe, Ehlers also played stronger on the back nine than the front nine, taking three strokes off from a 42 to a 39.
“I didn’t really hit the ball off the day, so I’d just say I scrambled pretty well,” Ehlers said. “I had hit it up in the trees and came out of the hole with a par, so I scrambled pretty well.”
Ehlers said that a windy back nine combined with fast greens made for a tough course, but that he still wanted to do what he could to finish strong in his last outing of the season.
“That was kind of hard to adapt to anyway, but other than that it was a fun day and a good last tournament,” Ehlers said.
Noah Klapmeier of Mora won the tournament at 2-under, edging out Eden Prairie’s Ferguson Breuer. They were the only players to finish at even par or better on the day.
