Irish take 5-3 win vs. Rockets
RAYMOND — The Milroy Irish wrapped up their regular season on the road Wednesday night, taking a 5-3 win over Raymond.
The Irish finish the season as the No. 2 seed in the Gopher League, earning a first-round bye in the league tournament that started Wednesday night.
The Irish’s defensive success was a team effort with four different pitchers stepping on the mound. Kenny Morris started the game with Moses Dolan, Tyler Peterson and Smith pitching relief.
Morris threw three scoreless innings, limiting Raymond to two hits and striking out three batters.
Konnor Zick and Derek Smith led the Irish at the plate. Zick went three-of-four at the dish while Smith had a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in three runs.
Smith also took the mound in the ninth inning for the save opportunity, striking out the side.
Dolan came on as the first reliever of the day, pitching three innings. He allowed three runs on four hits and struck out a pair of batters.
Tyler Peterson was the setup man for Milroy, throwing a pair of shutout innings with one hit and one strikeout. His performance earned him the win on the day.
Tyler Alcorn also had a pair of hits for Milroy while Lucas Dolan had a single and an RBI.
Milroy (14-6) will await the results of the first round Gopher League matchups to find out its second-round opponent. The round of eight will begin on July 26.
