Wabasso gets pair of mercy-rule wins

WABASSO — Avery and Sara Carlson led the Wabasso Rabbits to a mercy-rule win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthtrop Thursday night, 10-0.
Avery Carlson pitched five no-hit innings while striking out five batters. She allowed only two baserunners — both walks — while also hitting single, scoring a run and hitting a sacrifice fly on offense.
Sara Carlson led the Wabasso offense with a pair of doubles. She drove in a run and scored three times on the night.
Lyla Kittleson singled once and drove in three runs in the game.
WABASSO 15, GFW 5 (5)
WABASSO — For the second time on on Thursday, the Wabasso softball team won via fifth-inning mercy rule against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, this time to a tune of 15-5.
Wabasso was outhit by GFW 10-4 in the late game of the doubleheader but they drew 15 walks. Additionally, it capitalized on GFW’s three errors.
The Rabbits trailed 4-1 after three, but a five-run fourth inning and nine-run fifth inning led the team to victory.
Avery Carlson walked in each of her four at-bats in the game, scoring three runs. She also pitched four innings of relief, allowing six hits, a walk and three runs — one of which was unearned — while recording the win.
Annabelle Struntz started the game on the mound for Wabasso, pitching one inning and allowing two runs on four hits before being relieved.
Sara Carlson hit a single and drove in three runs in the game while Addisyn Hillesheim had a single, an RBI and scored twice.
Wabasso (7-4) will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran for its next game Monday at 5 p.m.
