Section 3A playoffs recap: YME dominant, will face TMB Tuesday

Lakeview will face Dawson-Boyd Tuesday; Canby Eliminated

GRANITE FALLS– Dominant is an understatement when talking about the Yellow Medicine East Sting baseball team in the opening round of the Section 3A playoffs on Saturday morning. YME scored 41 runs in two games, playing only 10 innings and advanced easily to Tuesday as they will now face the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers. YME had not dropped a game to a section opponent all season winning 14 straight.

The first game of the day was the host city YME Sting going up against the Canby Lancers. The Sting got nine runs in the very first inning putting the Lancers in a deep hole. After a 1-2-3 inning, YME put up 11 more runs in the next three innings combined to lead 20-0 after four innings. Canby would put up a run to avoid the shutout but season would end at the hands of YME on a 20-1 loss.

Bryce Sneller had a huge game going 4-4 with three doubles and seven RBIs. Nolan Hildahl had two hits and drove in two RBIs. Jake Odegard had a hit with two RBIs. Starting pitcher Cody Dahlager went four innings and struck out 12. Despite not getting a hit, Dahlager scored four runs and walked twice at the plate. Nahum Tarin had two hits and drove in an RBI in the win. YME had 12 hits and scored 20 runs to open the day of play.

The Lancers got four hits but also had eight errors in the loss. Liam Macarthur had an RBI single and drove in the only run for Canby.

The YME Sting moved on to face the winner of Lakeview/Lac Qui Parle Valley Eagles.

Lakeview 6, LQPV 0

GRANITE FALLS– The Lakeview Lakers baseball team advanced to the next game and ended the season of the Lac Qui Parle Valley Eagles in a 6-0 win on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Section 3A playoffs.

With the win, the Lakers now set up a matchup against the No.1 seeded Yellow Medicine East Sting that will determine who will stay in the championship bracket and who will go to the elimination bracket.

YME 21, Lakeview 0

GRANITE FALLS– The Yellow Medicine East Sting baseball dominated and blanked the Lakeview Lakers 21-0 in five innings on Saturday afternoon.

The Sting score nine runs in the opening inning for the second straight game and would follow that up with three in the second with eight in the third also getting 20 runs scored in back-to-back games

Braden Nelson led the way with three hits including two doubles and drove in a game-high five runs. Lead off hitter Dahlager had two hits, drove in two runs and scored four runs again giving him eight in two games. Odegard, Tarin and Landon Anderson each had two hits apiece. Odegard drove in three runs while Tarin drone in one. Sneller and Drew Almich each had two RBIs in the win. Almich also had a game-high three walks in the contest. Sneller also pitched a complete game shutout and struck out 10. With the win, YME now faces the lowest seed left in the championship bracket the No.6 seeded TMB Panthers. The Panthers are coming off two impressive upsets over the Minneota Vikings and the host city Murray County Central Rebels.

The last meeting between these two teams YME won a close battle with TMB 7-6. It was the second most runs the Sting gave up all season.

The first pitch for this game is at 5 p.m. on Tuesday and will be played at the Milroy Yankees field at Yankee Stadium.

The Lakers couldn’t generate any offense this game as they only could manage two hits. The two hits were by Tucker Fiene and Caine Herigon. The Lakers also had two errors in the loss. With the loss, Lakeview will now head to the elimination bracket and face Dawson-Boyd at Montevideo on Tuesday evening at 5 p.m.

Dawson-Boyd won the earlier matchup between the two teams in Cottonwood 8-0.
