SLAYTON– The Murray County Central baseball team avenged its early season loss to the Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove Falcons Monday afternoon, winning 16-2 in five innings.

The Rebels lost 2-0 to RRC/WWG in their last matchup, the Rebels’ only loss of the season.

MCC got off to a hot start with Jaden Deacon driving in the first run of the game on a sacrifice and Connor Degreeff had an RBI single, contributing to the Rebels leading the Falcons 3-0 after two innings. Despite playing on the home field, the Rebels were the visiting team in the matchup.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Falcons responded by scoring two. One of the runs came off starting MCC pitcher Abe Paulzine’s wild pitch. The Falcons trimmed the lead to one but it would be their final run of the game.

The Rebels took full control in the top of the fourth inning, scoring 13 runs and batting around their full lineup twice.

The scoring started with Dylan Kluis hitting a two-run homer over the right field wall making it a 5-2 lead. Then the Rebels had back-to-back two-run base hits. Derek Kluis had a triple and Paulzine got a single, making it a 9-2 game.

MCC was far from done but would get aided by the Falcons’ pitching.

RRC/WWG walked in three runs before Paulzine came up to bat and got his second two-run single of the inning making it a 14-2 game in the top of the fourth.

The Falcons used three pitchers to get out of the inning and the Rebels finished with 13 runs, winning the game by the same score, 16-2, in five innings.

MCC drew eight walks in the contest with lead-off hitter Carter Benda getting three of them. Degreeff had two hits in the ballgame and drove in three runs.

Jayden Lang had a base hit for RRC/WWG and scored a run in the loss.

“This was a very big game for us as far as our section or conference goes,” Murray County Central assistant coach Paul Counter said. “A month ago they knocked us off 2-0. We needed to be ready to go and that fourth inning sparked us where we scored 13 runs and got a lot of hits. I always say hitting is contagious and it just continued all through the order. I think the guys had revenge on their minds after the first meeting. The guys were ready to go. This was a very good win and we will enjoy it tonight but we play against a section opponent tomorrow so we’ll have to be ready to go.”

The RRC/WWG Falcons will be back in action today as they will travel to Ruthton to play against the Russell Tyler Ruthton Knights while the MCC Rebels (7-1) will host the Edgerton/SW Christian baseball team today.

Starting at $3.95/week.
