Marshall 3, Hutchinson 1
HUTCHINSON — A pair of first-inning runs by the Marshall baseball team were the deciding factor in the Tigers’ 3-1 victory over Hutchinson Monday night. The game was the Tigers’ fourth consecutive win.
Tyler Maeyaert drew a leadoff walk to start the game before stealing second and third base to get in scoring position. Carter Kepler replaced Maeyaert as a courtesy runner and, with one out, Lincoln Graven hit a sacrifice groundout to the pitcher to score Kepler.
Marshall wasn’t done, though. Coby Brownlee singled, advanced to second on a passed ball and proceeded to score on a single by Zach Leibfried. Brownlee finished the day 3-4 from the plate while Leibfried finished 2-3.
Leibfried also drove in Kepler in the third inning with a single to increase the Marshall lead to 3-0.
On the mound, Maeyaert pitched six innings. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks with six strikeouts. The lone Hutchinson run came in the fifth inning after Hutchinson hit a leadoff double. The runner advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Parker Schmitt closed out the game with the save. He started the seventh inning and, after allowing a leadoff single, got three strikeouts to slam the door on Hutchinson.
Ezra Maurice singled twice for the Tigers on the day.

CMC 10, Lakeview 8
COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview baseball team’s offensive firepower wasn’t enough to outshine Central Minnesota Christian Monday afternoon as the Lakers fell 10-8 to the Bluejays.
Taiven Isaackson got the Lakers off to a hot start in the first inning. Tucker Fiene drew a leadoff walk and Caine Herigon got a single with two outs to bring Isaackson up to bat. Isaackson took advantage of the opportunity and belted a home run to left field to give the Lakers an early 3-0 lead.
Still, CMC came right back. The Bluejays responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first to retake a 4-3 lead.
The Lakers and Bluejays each scored two runs in the second and Lakeview scored three more in the third, but its offense sputtered out for the rest of the game. The Bluejays’ offense took advantage and scored four unanswered runs in the next three innings to walk away with the win.
Hunter Magnuson hit a single and drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers while Herigon hit two singles while driving in a run.
Ayden St. Pierre started for the Lakers on the mound. He pitched 4 1/3 innings while allowing seven earned runs on five hits and five walks. He also struck out five batters.
Magnuson closed out the game. He pitched 1 2/3, allowing one run on three walks and no hits, but the lack of offensive production wasn’t enough to put the Lakers on top.
