Hilgemann, Tigers place fourth at Hutchinson
Prep golf roundup
HUTCHINSON — The Marshall girls golf team competed at the Hutchinson Invitational Friday night, placing fourth out of nine qualifying teams.
“The girls played pretty well. None of them had ever played the course before and it was our first 18-hole round of the season,” Marshall head coach Nancy Blanchard said.
Jaryn Hilgemann led the charge for the Tigers, finishing with 99 strokes to put her in a tie for fifteenth.
Ali Pederson, Dayton Webskowski and Eryn Kraft finished right behind her. Pederson and Webskowski shot a 101 and a 102 to place 20th and 22nd respectively. Kraft shot a 103 to place 24th.
Hilgemann shot a 46 through nine holes, Webskowski shot a 47, and Rylee Jacobson shot a 50 en route to a 108 total score on the day. Kraft and Pederson also shot just over a 50 through nine holes, a performance Blanchard said she was very pleased with.
“Mentally and physically, it gets draining, so I was really proud of them,” Blanchard said, adding that the way the team’s scores have bunched up lately could help them have a wider variety of scorers going forward.
Grace Ehlers was absent from the Friday event but will compete in today’s tournament. Hilgemann will be absent from the tournament.
Marshall finished with a team score of 405, putting them seven strokes back of B.O.L.D. and five ahead of Litchfield. Hutchinson and Delano took the top to spots, finishing with 339 strokes and 354 strokes respectively.
With the exception of Kraft, three of the four Marshall scorers were underclassmen. Jacobson, who placed 34th, is also a junior.
“They’re coming in and there’s some talent in these youngsters,” Blanchard said. “It’s nice to see them starting to bring their scores down. With some young players, there can be a little more inconsistency at times, but in general, I’ve been very pleased. The practice and training that they’ve been putting in is starting to show.
The Marshall girls golf team will prepare for a busy stretch coming up, playing at Rose Lake Golf Club in Fairmont on Saturday, at Redwood Falls Golf Club on Monday and will wrap up their busy stretch at St. Cloud Country Club on Thursday.
