MINNEOTA– The Countryside Golf Club hosted the Minneota girls invitational on Tuesday morning. There were five area high school teams involved in the matchup. The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights carded a 428, finishing fifth out of the five teams that participated.

The Canby Lancers carded a 416 finishing fourth and the Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks carded a score of 375 to finish second behind the winner of the invitational, the Lac Qui Parle Valley Eagles, who had the lowest score at 356.

Out of the 28 players whose scores were taken from the field, three of the Blackjacks finished in the top 10. Senior Lindsey Lund had an 84, freshman Alyssa Swedzinski had an 88, and seventh grader Claire Stratmoen had a 98.

Junior Shae O’Leary finished ninth in the field at 101 and sophomore Jenna Gossen finished at 103. Canby Senior Kara Rangaard finished in the top five at fourth with an 84. Another notable score is Alexis Noble for the MACCRAY Wolverines with a 99, finishing in the top 10.

“Lund and Swedzenski they bring a ton of experience,” DB head coach Cory Larson said. Those girls are pretty consistent. Score wise both of them were around their season average. It was certainly a great surprise seeing Stratmoen finish in the top seven. Both of our seventh graders are very competitive. She is learning how to manage the good and bad shots by focusing on the next shot. This season has been super short and it goes so quickly. Golf is so much different than other sports. You are playing different courses and there are a lot of adjustments there. The girls are starting to feel comfortable with their short games. Now they’re starting to see lower scores.”

The section meet is on Monday, May 15th at the Marshall Golf Club in Marshall. The meet starts at 10 a.m.

Starting at $3.95/week.
