Jon Parker resigns as SMSU tennis coach
MARSHALL, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University head women’s tennis coach Jon Parker announced today he has resigned from his position at SMSU to accept another professional opportunity.
Parker, who was hired on Jan. 9, 2020, spent four seasons as the Mustang head coach leading the program to the NSIC Tournament each season (the 2020 season was canceled), including a pair of semifinal appearances in 2021 and 2022.
“I learned how to become a better coach because of the support I had from the SMSU administration and other coaches,” Parker said. “It is what attracted me to the position initially and continues today. It’s been my pleasure to work with the amazing student-athletes and staff at SMSU.”
Parker finished with a 33-41 record, including 22-19 in NSIC matches during his tenure. SMSU won 17 matches in 2022, setting a program record for victories at the Division II level.
“I want to thank Jon for his commitment to the Mustang tennis program during his four seasons,” said SMSU Director of Athletics Jen Flowers. “We wish Jon and his family the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
