MARSHALL — Zach Kramer scored three times Tuesday night to help the Marshall boys hockey team to an 8-2 home win over Fairmont.

Kramer scored his first goal less than three minutes into the first period. After the Cardinals were called for a cross-checking minor, Kramer capitalized on the power play to put the Tigers up 1-0.

Kramer scored twice more in the third period to seal the deal for the Tigers.

Sam Schwarz was credited with an assist on each of Kramer’s goals and then scored himself off a Kramer assist in the second period to increase Marshall’s lead to 4-2.

Talan Plante scored a pair of goals for the Tigers, once in the second period and once again on a power play in the waning minutes of the third period.

Ezra Maurice manned the net for the Tigers and finished the game with 21 saves.

Fairmont outshot Marshall 11-9 in the third period, but Marshall outshout the Cardinals 17-5 and 14-5 in the prior two periods to put the game out of reach.

Fairmont tied the game at 1-1 minutes after Kramer’s first goal and tied it again early in the second period at 2-2, but never led in the game.

Parker Schmitt gave Marshal a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period and was credited with an assist on Kramer’s second goal.

Klayton Weller, Jacob Johnson and Owen Renslow each also racked up a pair of assists on the night.

Marshall (9-10-1) will go on the road to face off against Luverne Thursday at 7 p.m. The Cardinals won the teams’ matchup earlier this season, 3-5, on Nov. 29.

Starting at $3.95/week.
