FAIRMONT -- Bri Simpson scored more points than Fairmont's top three scorers combined to lead the Marshall girls basketball team to a 68-35 road win over the Cardinals on Saturday.
Simpson scored 19 points in the game on 57% from the field.
Randi Wendorff scored 10 points and dished out four assists, tying her with Lauren Wherry and Lexie Bednarek for a team-high.
Halla Casavan grabbed four offensive rebounds for Marshall and five defensive rebounds. She was the only Tiger with five or more rebounds, but the Tigers still kept the rebounding margin close. The Cardinals outrebounded Marshall 31-26.
The difference in the game was the discrepancy in the teams' ability to force turnovers. Marshall finished the game with 25 steals and Fairmont with three.
Simpson paced the Tigers' defensive efforts with six steals, Taleigha Bigler stole the ball four times, and Wherry and Wendorff had three apiece.
The Cardinals shot 24% from the field while Marshall shot 49%. The Cardinals did hold the advantage in 3-point shooting, however, shooting 5-13 compared to Marshall's 4-15 shooting.
Marshall (12-5) will go on the road to face Pipestone Area tonight at 7:30 p.m.
