LITCHFIELD -- The Marshall girls hockey team extended its undefeated streak to eight games with a 1-1 road tie against Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato Monday night.
Also extending a point streak on the night was Brooklyn Mauch. The eighth grader scored the tying goal with six minutes remaining in the third. The unassisted goal marks her sixth straight game with a goal and her ninth in that span.
Belle Deutz finished the game with 41 saves in goal for the Tigers. The mark is her second-highest total of the season behind a 50-save outing against Eden Prairie in Marshall's second game of the season.
Deutz's .976 save percentage was her third-highest percentage of the year behind shutout performances against New Ulm and Hutchinson, with 28 and 20 saves respectively.
The Tigers were outshot 35-42 in the game by LDC. The teams kept even pace for the first two periods and overtime, but LDC outshot Marshall 16-8 in the third period to skew the numbers.
Litchfield was called for three separate minor penalties in the third period, but the Tigers were unable to capitalize with a goal to seize momentum. LDC was also called for a body-checking minor in the first period.
The tie breaks up a five-game win streak for the Tigers, but their point streak continues. They haven't lost in their last eight games, with their last loss coming 4-0 against Delano/Rockford in the Herb Brooks Tournament in December.
Marshall (8-8-3) will play their second of five games this week tonight at 7 p.m. when they host Minnesota River.
With a 2-point lead over Minnesota River for third place in the Big South Conference, a win or a loss could make a big difference come to the end of the season.
