Boike, Hjelmeland lead DB past Canby

CANBY — Brayson Boike and Drew Hjelmeland combined for 43 points to lead the Dawson-Boyd boys basketball team to a blowout road win over Canby, 89-51, on Monday night.
Hjelmeland’s points came on an efficient 72% shooting, including 3-5 from long range, and he blocked four shots on the defensive end.
Boike was just as efficient, shooting 71% from the field. Defensively he blocked a pair of shots and made a steal, while also grabbing 10 rebounds to post a double-double on the night.
Aiden Swenson and Keegon Wicht also finished in double figures for DB, scoring 16 and 13 points respectively. Wicht’s six assists were a team-high and his eight rebounds left him two shy of a double-double.
Michael Tol 11 points made him the lone Lancer in double figures. Trevor Gray was Canby’s second-leading scorer with 9 points on 33% shooting.
Levi Olson had a game-high four steals for the Blackjacks.
Zach Ourada led Canby in rebounds with five on the night.
Dawson-Boyd (11-3) has won five straight and will host Ortonville tonight at 7:30 p.m. for their next game.
Canby (8-7) will go on the road to face Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Lancers will look to avoid their third straight loss and remain over .500.
LQPV 76, Minneota 74
MINNEOTA — The Minneota boys basketball team finished with four double-digit scorers in their game against Lac qui Parle Valley, but couldn’t contain the Eagles offense in a 76-74 home loss Monday night.
Ryan Dalager led the Vikings in scoring with 17 points on 55% shooting from the field and 3-7 shooting from long range. He also contributed four assists and five boards.
Sawyer DeSmet was just behind him with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Maxwell Rost and Anthony Rybinski dropped dimes left and right, finishing with seven apiece. Rost also did some scoring of his own with 15 points on 30% shooting.
LQPV’s offense wasn’t quite a one-man show, but Darrick Molden was certainly the deciding factor in the game. He scored 27 points on 7-15 shooting from 3-point range.
As a team, Minneota made seven 3-pointers on 26% shooting.
The Minneota Vikings (5-7) will hit the road to face MACCRAY on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
KMS 62, YME 52
GRANITE FALLS — The Yellow Medicine East boys basketball team fell short in their Monday night matchup against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, 62-52, in Granite Falls.
DJ Whitebuffalo and Archie LaRose led the Sting in scoring with 13 points apiece. Whitebuffalo shot 71% from the field and 1-2 from 3-point range, and LaRose shot 50% from the field and 1-4 from long range.
LaRose also grabbed six rebounds and five steals.
Bryce Sneller grabbed five boards and scored 11 points on perfect 5-5 shooting from the field.
Following the loss, YME (4-8) will go on the road to face Montevideo tonight at 7 p.m.
Girls Basketball
DB 42, Ortonville 25
DAWSON — Despite some offensive struggles, the Dawson-Boyd girls basketball team pulled away from Ortonville for a 42-25 home win Monday night.
Claire Stratmoen led the Blackjacks in scoring with 13 points on 27% from the field. She was the only Blackjack to score more than 7 points.
On the defensive end, Stratmoen stole the ball six times in the game.
Allison Estling grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and was the Blackjacks’ second-leading scorer with 7 points on 30% shooting.
As a team, DB shot 28% from the field and 0-7 from 3-point range.
The Trojans shot 26% from the field and 1-7 from 3-point range.
Dawson-Boyd will play again tonight at 7:30 when they go on the road to face Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg. The Blackjacks will also get a road rematch against Ortonville on Friday night.
LQPV 50, Canby 23
MADISON — The Canby girls basketball team was never able to find any offensive rhythm in their 50-23 road loss to Lac qui Parle Valley Monday night.
Five players on the Canby roster scored a basket, but none finished in double figures.
AshleeAnn Frazeur had the best offensive performance for the Lancers, finishing with 6 points on 2-3 shooting.
Braelyn Merritt’s 7 points were a team-high for Canby. She shot 38% from the field.
Lacie DeVos didn’t find the bottom of the net, but she led the Lancers in rebounds with seven. She also took away four steals on the defensive end.
Canby (5-10) will host Yellow Medicine East tonight at 6 p.m. with the hope of avoiding their sixth straight loss.
