GRANITE FALLS-- Yellow Medicine East Sting senior student-athlete Hannah Stark signed her letter of intent to play for the Briar Cliff University women's basketball team on Monday. Stark is a three-sport athlete playing basketball, and softball and just finishing up her final volleyball season. Family, friends, and faculty were all in attendance to celebrate her signing. Coach Ortmeier made the trip up from Sioux City, Iowa where the University is located to speak on behalf of recruiting Stark.
After the signing, many people wanted to take photos basking in the achievement of Stark signing on to a college.
"I have been playing AAU for years now and I have been looking forward to playing college basketball," Stark said. "I had a lot of Division 3 offers but coach Brian Ortmeier reached out to me and I went for a visit. Immediately I absolutely love it. I love the coaches, the players, and the atmosphere. The University also has my major I want to study which is Exercise Science and one of my friends is going there too."
Stark added that she wants to get her Doctorate in Physical therapy. Also that she enjoyed her time playing volleyball and will play spring softball coming up this season but wants to dedicate herself to basketball. Stark also said at first she didn't even know what Briar Cliff University was but became enamored with the school as soon as stepped on campus. She knew on the car ride back home with her parents that Briar Cliff was the school for her. Stark also talked to her sisters about the final decision she made about college.
