MARSHALL -- Tyler Maeyaert signed his letter of intent to play baseball for the University of Sioux Falls on Tuesday morning in the Marshall high school gym.
During his time as a Tiger, Maeyaert also played varsity basketball and started at quarterback for the football team, but said he chose to stick with baseball because it was the sport he was most naturally drawn to and most successful at.
As for his college decision, Maeyaert cited USF's proximity to home and the quality of its program as his deciding factors.
He is excited to see what he can do in collegiate baseball when he focuses all his energy on training for one sport, Maeyaert said.
Maeyaert played for the Marshall varsity team and the Marshall Mudcats legion team, playing pitcher and center field.
In his junior year at Marshall, Maeyaert pitched 37 innings with 44 strikeouts and a 2.08 ERA while also batting .351 and stealing eight bases.
