Win marks No. 500 for Westby

MARSHALL – Marshall head volleyball coach Dan Westby recorded his 500th career win with the team in Saturday afternoon’s game against Brookings (S.D.) in which the Tigers won in straight sets. Westby was honored after the game with speeches from former players and assistant coaches in recognition of the momentous accomplishment.

“Any time something like this happens, it’s more of a program accomplishment than an individual accomplishment,” Westby said of the milestone. “We’ve been so fortunate over the years. We

Ve had so many players, assistant coaches, and parents contribute to our program, that’s just made my job as a coach much easier.”

Marshall won each of the three sets by double-digits. Brookings only surpassed ten points in a set once in the match with an 11-point performance in their third set loss. This high-water mark came after the Tigers started to rotate in their reserves and sub out their starters.

The Tigers had contributions come from all over their offense. Randi Wendorff led the team in kills with seven, but four other players also had at least five. Among these other four was Leah Jones, who also recorded three blocks.

Kennedy Drake led Marshall in digs with 12 and also finished the game with three aces.

The Marshall Tiger (19-1) will play their next game Tuesday, when they host Pipestone Area at 7:15 p.m.
