Tigers take first place in Redwood Valley Invite

REDWOOD FALLS– The Marshall Tigers boys Cross country competed in the Redwood Valley meet on Thursday.

Wabasso, Redwood Valley, Minnesota Valley Lutheran, Windom Area and Marshall competed in the event, and the Tigers took home first place with 25 points, beating out second-place Redwood Valley by 15.

All five of the Tigers’ scoring runners finished within the top 10.

Josh Leibfried for the Tigers finished second with a time of 16:27. His teammate Keagen Anderson placed third with a time of 16:29 and Sam Deutz placed fourth with a time of 16:46. Rounding out the top ten, Hudson Dieken for the Tigers placed seventh with a time of 17:17 and Kohen Holcomb placed ninth with a time of 17:26.

Head coach of the Marshall Tigers boys Cross country team Brian Leibfried commented on his team’s performance.

“We had a great meet today in Redwood Falls,” Leibfried said. “Across the board, we felt that the boys raced very well. The focus was clear and as a result we saw some huge personal record times broken. This was the first meet in quite a while where our top 5 varsity team average was under 17 minutes. What is most impressive is our 1-5 split was under a minute considering we were faster on the front end as well. We will continue to keep our pack close and that is what will help us the most going down the stretch to make the gains we are expecting to have.”

The Marshall Tigers boys cross country team will meet next on Saturday in Willmar.
