SMSU finish 8th Midwest Classic

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s golf team concluded the fall portion of its season Tuesday with an eighth-place finish with a score of 101-over 677 at the 17-team Midwest Classic hosted by Northwest Missouri State.

The second round was completed on Tuesday after the teams played round one and as many holes as possible in round two on Monday before was suspended due to darkness.

SMSU was tied for eighth place after round one and improved by 17 strokes to close with a score of 330. SMSU’s final score ranked second among NSIC schools at the tournament.

Sally Gallagher had a strong tournament for the Mustangs, tying her season low with a 3-over 75 in the second round to help finish in a tie for sixth place overall with a 14-over 158. Gallagher had three birdies and eight pars in round two and finished the tournament with four birdies and 16 pars.

Courtni Frank finished tied for 28th overall with a 25-over 169. She carded a 12-over 84 in round two with seven pars and finished the tournament collecting three birdies and 10 pars.

Jacqueline Gossen put together a 9-over 81 in the second round with one birdie and nine pars to close in a tie for 43rd place with a 29-over 173. She finished the tournament with 12 pars and one birdie.

Danielle Podoll shot an 18-over 90 in round two with five pars and finished tied for 61stoverall at 34-over 178, while recording 12 pars and one birdie in the tournament.

Lauryn Driscoll finished tied for 70th at 39-over 183, following a round two score of 20-over 92 with six pars. She closed the tournament with nine pars and one birdie.

SMSU will return to competition in March 2023.
