MARSHALL -- Mustangs defeated the Northern State Wolves in straight sets Saturday afternoon, marking the SMSU volleyball team's sixth consecutive win since losing in five sets to No. 5 Minnesota-Duluth on September 30th.

Meg Schmidt was key to the Mustangs' success in the match. Her 18 kills were six more than the Wolves' leader, and Schmidt also contributed four digs and 1.5 blocks.

Natalee Rolbiecki was SMSU's defensive leader, finishing the match with 12 digs while also adding an ace.

The Mustangs led wire-to-wire, but the sets were close throughout. After winning the first set 25-22 and the second set 25-17, the third set was particularly close. SMSU took an early 15-9 lead, but Northern State battled back to make the score 16-14. The Mustangs pulled away again before Northern State made another run, but, fittingly, Meg Schmidt was able to score the game-sealing kill.

SMSU (19-2, NSIC 11-2) will play their next game on the road against Augustana at 6 p.m.
