Marshall Sweeps Pipestone, 3-0

MARSHALL- The Marshall Tigers continue to exhibit their dominance in a straight sets win on senior over the Pipestone Arrows, 25-14, 25-18, and 25-15 on Tuesday night.

Although the Tigers did sweep the Arrows, the Arrows would make each set interesting by matching point for point. Ultimately, the Tigers would go on a late run in each set and close the Arrows out.

Leah Jones led the Tigers in kills with 11 and her teammates Brooke Andries with Brielle Riess would have 10 kills apiece in the contest. Caitlyn Christianson would lead the Tigers in digs with 16 on the match and Jones would be second on the team with 10 digs.

Head coach of the Tigers Dan Westby talked about the win but how much of a grind it was to do so.

“It felt like we didn’t play our cleanest match,” Westby said. “Pipestone had a lot to do with that because they came in ready to go. We struggled with our serve and when you make things easy for teams, they’re going to take advantage of that. We started to play better in that third set, but it was a grind in that first and second set.”

Westby would also elaborate on his eight seniors in the program and how much they have had an impact.

“It is kind of unusual for us to have so many seniors,” Westby added. “We feel fortunate and they had all been big contributors to this team. They come to practice every day ready to go and I hope we can have a lot more time with this group. They have been fun to be around.”

The Marshall Tigers are now (19-1) and will host Moorhead in their home season finale on Saturday afternoon.
