Mustangs in action over the weekend

MARSHALL -- Fall sports seasons are underway on the Southwest Minnesota State University campus, as a number of teams opened their seasons last week.

The No. 22-ranked SMSU volleyball team went 4-0 at the Colorado School of Mines Classic on Friday. It was the second consecutive season the Mustangs swept the classic and an undefeated start to Tyler Boddy's coaching career.

The highlight of the weekend came with a 3-1 win over the host Orediggers, the No. 11-ranked team in the country. The Mustangs also earned wins over Western Colorado (3-0), Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa.

The Mustangs will travel to Missouri for the Drury/Southwest Baptist Classic this weekend for games against Missouri Western State, Drury (Missouri), Southern Arkansas and Rockhurst (Missouri).

The Clay Glasgow era of SMSU soccer began on Friday with a 2-2 tie against East Central (Oklahoma). The game was played in Kearney, Nebraska, where the Mustangs stayed for Sunday's matchup against Nebraska-Kearney. The Mustangs and Lopers ended the game in a 0-0 draw.

The Mustangs will travel to Missouri Western State on Friday.

The regular season debuts for football, women's golf, men's and women's cross country and women's tennis will take place this week.
