EAGAN — It was an early start to the day Thursday for members of the Marshall Tigers football team, but a day that they will never forget.

At 6:30 a.m., a group of 115 — coaches, players and managers — departed Marshall, en route for Vikings training camp at TCO Performance Center in Eagan. The Minnesota Vikings paid the transportation costs for the trip while San Francisco 49ers quarterback and Marshall High School graduate Trey Lance picked up the meal tab for the group.

“The Vikings called about two weeks ago with the idea of doing something special for Trey coming back to Minnesota,” Marshall coach Terry Bahlmann said. “It’s sort of surreal to see Trey and what he’s accomplished in such a short time.”

Members of the Tigers lined the sidelines of the practice fields during the scrimmage for an up-close vantage point of a National Football League training camp practice. After the practice, Lance spent time to speak with his former team. Former Vikings players Chad Greenway and Ben Leber also took time to speak to the group.
