Eagles eliminate Mudhens with 11-1 victory

ROSEN — On a rainy-filled Saturday, the Morris Eagles eliminated the Minneota Mudhens from the Region 9C tournament Sunday, 11-1.

Both teams’ bats couldn’t get going during the first few innings with only one run was scored between the two teams. The Eagles eventually erupted with the 11 runs.

The Mudhens finished with 12 hits, but lacked timely hits to keep up with the Eagles.

“Tough way to end the year,” Mudhens Manager Tyson Sonnenberg said. “Both teams had 12 hits each but we only had one run to show for it. We just couldn’t get any timely hits. It was 1-0 through the first 6 innings and we had opportunities to score runs but we just couldn’t get that clutch hit.

“Overall we had a great year winning the Land’ O Ducks league and going into the tournament as the No.1 seed for the first time in Mudhens history. It’s always disappointing to end the season early but I’m very proud of the guys for a great year,” he said.

Mudhens players Austin Buysse, Danny Hennen, Peyton Gillund and Brock Buysse finished with two hits a piece.

The Mudhens finished the season with a 15-4 record.
