TYLER — Todd Bouman has been involved with multiple football camps over the years, but not many have been offensive-focused. And none of them were held on the campus of his high school alma mater.

For the first time, Bouman — who graduated from Russell-Tyler-Ruthton before playing 14 seasons in the NFL for six teams – held a skills camp for quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs and tight ends on Saturday morning at RTR High School. 23 total players from nine different schools participated in the camp.

Bouman said it was great to be back in town and hopes they can continue this camp in the future.

“It’s awesome. I’m excited to be back here. It was a huge part of my life and we always had such great support here in the community,” Bouman said. “To come back here and be able to do this at the new school and the beautiful facility, that adds something to it. It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do, to get back here and get back home and start doing a camp. Hopefully it becomes a yearly thing.”

Bouman said their main focus during the camp was on passing, including teaching quarterbacks how to perfect their timing and teaching receivers proper route running.

“For me, I always feel like there’s a lot of high school kids that go to college camps and they don’t have the skill-set or been taught the skill-set of the passing game,” Bouman said. “Today, we’re going to focus a lot on the passing game; the quarterbacks, the timing with the receivers, teaching the receivers how to run and set up routes. I’m primarily focusing on the passing game.”

Starting at $3.95/week.
