PREP TRACK AND FIELD: Area athletes prepare for state meet
MARSHALL — Multiple area track and field athletes will compete against some of the state’s best in the Class A and AA meet this weekend at St. Michael-Albertville High School.
Class A
In Class A, Canby/Minneota will be represented by four individuals and a pair of relay teams. On the girls side, senior Aidyn Bruns will compete in the high jump today at 4 p.m. Sophomore Braelyn Merritt will compete in the 400 meters today at approximately 5:42 p.m. Freshman Claire Stoks will compete in the 1600 meters on Friday at approximately 5:52 p.m. The 4×200 meter relay team consisting of senior RyAnn Hansen, Bruns, eighth-grader Karlie Wollum and freshman Natalie Stoks will compete today at approximately 4:53 p.m. The 4×400 meter relay team of Hansen, Claire Stoks, Merritt and senior Grace Drietz will compete today at approximately 7:25 p.m. On the boys side, junior Trevor Gray will compete in the high jump on Friday at approximately 4 p.m.
Yellow Medicine East will have two individuals competing. Junior Ruby Bones will compete in the high jump today at 4 p.m. while senior Patrick Hoernemann will compete in the triple jump today at 4 p.m.
Wabasso will have one individual competing, with sophomore Katelyn Zeug competing in the long jump today at 4 p.m.
Murray County Central will be represented by three individuals and a relay team. Sophomore Brylei Schreier will compete in the 400 meters today at approximately 5:42 p.m. Junior Ashley Overgaauw will compete in the 800 meters today at approximately 6:18 p.m. while her sister Amanda will compete in the 3200 meters today at approximately 6:55 p.m. The 4×800 meter relay team consisting of Schreier, freshman Sophia Nelson and Ashley and Amanda Overgaauw will compete on Friday at 4 p.m.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton will be represented by three individuals and two relay teams. On the boys side, senior Julius Williams will compete in the 110 meter hurdles today at approximately 4:12 p.m. Senior Tony Nelson will compete in two events, in the shot put today at 4 p.m. and the discus on Friday at approximately 5:15 p.m. Nelson won the state championship last year in the shot put. The 4×200 meter relay team consisting of senior Ayden Horner, senior Jake Turner, sophomore Gage Struchen and senior Christian Wendland will compete today at approximately 5:06 p.m. The 4×400 meter relay team of eighth-grader Tyler Arnold, freshman Cade Swenhaugen, sophomore Carter Sweetman and senior Nick Ankrum will compete today at approximately 7:40 p.m. On the girls side, senior Sarena Schwartz will compete in the pole vault on Friday at 4 p.m.
Lakeview will have three individuals competing. Junior Greg Schafer will compete in the 100 meters today at approximately 4:30 p.m. Junior Ethan Schwankl will compete in two events, in the 800 meters today at approximately 6:26 p.m. and in the 1600 meters on Friday at approximately 6:02 p.m. Junior Nathan Fenske will compete in the high jump on Friday at 4 p.m.
Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd will have one individual competing, with freshman Brayson Boike competing in the high jump on Friday at 4 p.m.
Class AA
In Class AA, Marshall will be represented by one individual and one relay team. Junior Bri Simpson will compete in the 400 meters on Friday at approximately 11:20 a.m. The 4×800 meter relay team consisting of senior Bellamy Sukalski, eighth-grader Taleigha Bigler, junior Miracle Tucker and sophomore Allyson Sample will compete on Saturday at approximately 9 a.m.
