SMSU BASEBALL: Isaac Nett, Chase McDaniel earn All-NSIC honors
BURNSVILLE — A pair of Southwest Minnesota State University baseball players have earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference postseason honors on Tuesday as sophomore outfielder Isaac Nett was named All-NSIC First Team, while sophomore shortstop Chase McDaniel was named to the NSIC All-Defensive team. The all-conference teams and specialty awards were selected by the conference head coaches.
Nett, a native of Albany, started 40 games this season and batted a team-high .380 with a 1.021 OPS, six home runs, and 29 RBIs. He had more walks (16) than strikeouts (14) and tied for the team lead with 15 multi-hit games.
Nett ranked 16th in the NSIC in batting average at .358 (NSIC games only) and ranked 17th in the NSIC in home runs (five). He ended the season on a 13-game hitting streak and is the first Mustang to earn All-NSIC First Team honors since 2015.
McDaniel, a native of Pahrump, Nev., started 39 of the team’s 43 games and committed just seven errors, while registering 86 assists and 63 putouts for a .955 fielding percentage.
On offense, McDaniel batted .338 (50 for 148), tied for the team lead with eight doubles, while adding one triple, 24 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
McDaniel is a 2020 graduate of Pahrump Valley High School.
SMSU finished the season 17-26 overall, 10-21 NSIC. The Mustangs closed the season winning nine of its last 12 games, which included winning two weekend series and sweeping two mid-week doubleheaders.
