Former Wabasso athlete Nick Altermatt named to D2CCA and NCBWA All-Central Region First Team
ST. PAUL — The Minnesota State baseball team had three players named to the D2CCA and NCBWA All-Central Region First and Second Teams, as announced by officials Wednesday. Junior Nick Altermatt was named to the D2CCA and NCBWA All-Central Region First Teams, senior Brendan Knoll was named to the D2CCA and NCBWA All-Central Region Second Teams and senior Cam Kline was named to the D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team.
A junior two-way right-handed pitcher and utility player out of Wanda, Altermatt has seen action in 45 of the Mavericks’ 46 games this season and made 44 starts. He was twice named to the All-NSIC First Team earlier this season as a right-handed pitcher and as an outfielder. He leads MSU’s offensive charge with a team-high .374 batting average and .696 slugging percentage. Additionally, Altermatt leads the Mavericks in hits (64), doubles (20), home runs (11), RBI (61) and total bases (119). Also a massive threat on the mound as a pitcher, Altermatt has carved up the opposition with his arm. In 10 starts and 54 innings pitched this season, Altermatt owns a perfect 10-0 record and leads MSU with 74 strikeouts. Named to the NSIC All-Defensive Team, Altermatt owns a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage this year with 29 putouts and 10 assists during the campaign. He is now a three-time D2CCA and two-time NCBWA All-Central Region Team member.
A senior right-handed pitcher from Kasson, Knoll owns the Mavericks’ fifth-lowest ERA (2.71) and opponent batting average (.214). While throwing the most innings (63) out of any Maverick pitcher this year, Knoll owns an 8-2 record with a team-high three complete games. In addition, the product of Kasson-Mantorville High School also has recorded a pair of shutouts this season. Knoll currently stands third in strikeouts among Maverick pitcher while issuing 26 free passes. This marks Knoll’s first D2CCA and NCBWA All-Central Region honors.
A senior two-way right-handed pitcher and utility player from Stacy, Kline was also named a two-time all-conference honoree this season by being named to the First Team as a pitcher and utility player as well as to the Second Team as a pitcher. Kline has seen action and started in 43 of the Mavericks 46 games this year and is third on the squad with a batting average of .359 and on-base percentage of .457. On the mound this season, he owns MSU’s second-lowest ERA (2.08) and a .214 opponent batting average. Kline is 8-0 with nine starts under his belt this year in 52 innings pitched. He has 62 strikeouts while issuing just 11 walks this season. Kline is now a two-time D2CCA All-Central Region Team member.
Altermatt, a D2CCA and NCBWA All-Central Region First Team selection, will now be listed on the D2CCA and NCBWA All-America ballots.
