MARSHALL -- Last season, the Marshall girls hockey team had another solid year, earning 11 victories. This year, Marshall had an up-and-down season, going 13-14-1 overall before falling to Luverne in the Section 3A semifinals.
Marshall had a back and forth start, winning two of its first three games before dropping three of its next four, with the other being a 1-1 tie against Waconia on Nov. 26, 2021. Marshall then won six of its next seven games, outscoring its opponents 26-9 during that stretch, before going 4-3 in its next seven. MHS then fell in its final five games to close the regular season, but opened the Section 3A tournament with a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Worthington before dropping another tight contest to Luverne in the next round.
Marshall will graduate three seniors in Shelby Ormberg, Leah Schaefer and Tessa Gannott but will bring back a strong group of young talent and experience, including Kyra Skogrand, Lily Verkinderen, Jenae Davis, Grace Bump, Mia Wichmann, Mady Girard, Kendal Beernaert, Aubree Metheny, Kalyn DeVlieger, Olivia Lupkes, Regan Loft, Aubrey Schaefer, Kayta Waltz, Eliza Holmgren, Olivia Degroot, Abbey Foley, Abi Guggisberg, Olivia Penske, Piper Mellenthin, Belle Deutz and Paige Christianson.
