PREP BOYS HOCKEY: Marshall gets past Windom Area for 3-2 victory in overtime

WINDOM — The Marshall boys hockey team defeated Windom Area 3-2 in overtime on Thursday.

Neither team found scoring in the first period but Marshall broke the scoreless tie in the next frame, as Sean Nwaiga found the back of the net on the assist by Jared Reinsma and Talan Plante to make it 1-0 with 12:58 left in the second. Windom would get a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead after two, but Marshall answered with a goal from Reinsma on the assist by Plante to tie things up at 2-2 with 6:54 left. Both teams couldn’t capitalize the rest of the frame and the game went into overtime. In the extra session, Nwaiga got one past the goaltender on the assist by Reinsma to give Marshall the one-goal victory.

Windom Area outshot Marshall 23-20 on the game. Ezra Maurice earned the victory in net for Marshall, recording 21 saves.

Marshall (10-9) will face Minnesota River at home on Saturday at 1 p.m.
