SMSU SOCCER: Freshman forward Kirsten Wetterstrom tabbed All-NSIC second team

BURNSVILLE — Freshman forward Kirsten Wetterstrom earned the lone All-NSIC honor for the Southwest Minnesota State University women’s soccer team as she was named to the All-NSIC second team as was voted upon by the league’s head coaches.

Wetterstrom, a native of Olathe, Kan., is the first SMSU freshman since 2013 to earn All-NSIC honors. She ended the season leading the team with 32 shots, was second on the team with 14 shots on goal, and was third on the team in minutes and in scoring with three goals.

Wetterstrom scored her first career goal on Oct. 3 at Minnesota Duluth, a goal that would go down as the eventual game-winner in a 2-1 victory. She led a young Mustang group offensively, starting 16 of 17 games, providing constant pressure against opposing defenses and indirectly creating chances.

Southwest Minnesota State finished the season at 4-11-2 overall and 3-10-2 in the conference.
