PREP HOCKEY ROUNDUP: Marshall girls earn tie against Waconia, boys game vs. Cotter gets canceled

MARSHALL — The Marshall boys and girls hockey teams held the first day of their home tournaments at the Red Baron Arena and Expo on Friday, with the girls team earning a tie against Waconia and the boys team having their game against Cotter get canceled.

Girls

Marshall 1,

Waconia 1 (OT)

On the girls side, Waconia jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the first period and held that advantage through two periods. Marshall wouldn’t go down without a fight, though, as Aubree Metheny scored at the 7:54 mark of the third period on the assist by Mia Wichmann to tie things up at 1-1. Neither side could find the back of the net the rest of the frame, as the two teams headed into overtime, but couldn’t capitalize in a 1-1 draw.

Though the result officially was marked as a tie, the two teams held a shootout to determine the winner. Marshall would get a pair of goals from Leah Schaefer and Kalyn DeVlieger while Belle Deutz came up with two stops to help MHS move on in the tournament.

Marshall (2-1-1) will finish tournament play today against Minnehaha United at 11:45 a.m.

Boys

Marshall vs. Cotter (canceled)

On the boys side, Marshall will play Pine City today at 4 p.m.
