SMSU WRESTLING: Steffen ranked No. 5, SMSU receiving votes in preseason NWCA ranking

MANHEIM, Pa. — Southwest Minnesota State University junior wrestler Caden Steffen is ranked fifth at 184 pounds in the preseason National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division II preseason rankings released on Oct. 15.

Steffen, a native of Zumbrota, is the highest ranked Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestler in the weight class. Last season, Steffen earned All-American honors with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships and closed the season with a record of 11-5.

Southwest Minnesota State, under the direction of first-year head coach Chayse Jackson, finished just outside the preseason NWCA Top 25 poll, receiving 10 votes.

SMSU will have its annual Brown & Gold Intra-squad Dual on Oct. 30 before opening the regular season on Nov. 13 at the Dakota Wesleyan Open. SMSU will have its first dual match of the season on Dec. 10 at Northern State.
