SMSU VOLLEYBALL: SMSU jumps a spot to No. 13 in latest AVCA Poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. — After a pair of dominant victories against Minnesota State and previous No. 5 Concordia-St. Paul, the Southwest Minnesota State University volleyball team (17-4) jumped a spot to No. 13 in the eighth regular season American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Division II weekly poll released on Monday afternoon.

SMSU, unranked in the preseason poll, handled Minnesota State in three sets, winning each set by nine or more points on Friday before defeating CSP in four sets on Saturday in a match that included a fourth set that saw the Mustangs hold the Golden Bears to 11 points. SMSU received 639 votes.

SMSU is one of five NSIC schools ranked in this week’s Top 25 with Concordia-St. Paul down two spots to No. 7, Wayne State dropping three spots to No. 11, Winona State up two spots to No. 10, and St. Cloud State dropping a spot to No. 14.

Southwest Minnesota State heads to Sioux Falls to take on the Cougars on Thursday at 6 p.m. before coming home to host Wayne State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
