SMSU GOLF: SMSU sits in eighth place following strong opening round at 18-team Midwest Classic

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Southwest Minnesota State University women's golf team put together a solid round shooting a 41-over 321 on Monday and is in ninth place at the 18-team Midwest Classic hosted by the University of Central Missouri. The two-round tournament is being played at the 5,618-yard, par 70, Mules National Golf Club.
Central Missouri is the round one leader with a 6-over 286 and holds an 18-shot advantage over Nebraska-Kearney. UCM's Rosie Klausner is the individual leader following an even-par 70.
Ashley Trongard put together SMSU's low score on Monday with a 7-over 77 and is tied for 19th overall. She had three birdies along with eight pars in the opening round.
Lauryn Driscoll and Sally Gallagher each carded rounds of 9-over 79 on Monday with Driscoll finishing with one birdie and nine pars, while Gallagher had two birdies and eight pars. The duo is tied for 32nd overall.
Jacqueline Gossen and Anneke Weg are both tied for 72nd overall following rounds of 16-over 86 to round out SMSU's team scoring. Gossen had six pars in the opening round with Weg registering five pars.
SMSU have four players competing as individuals during the tournament. Sydney Noel shot a 16-over 86 with five pars and is tied for 72nd; Danielle Podoll closed with a 17-over 87 with five pars and is tied for 78th; Natalie Bohnert had six pars and finished with an 18-over 88 and is tied for 85th; while Courtni Frank shot a 20-over 90 with three pars and tied for 90th overall.
Tuesday's final round begins at 9 a.m.
