SMSU ATHLETICS: Mustangs to host ‘Tackle Cancer’ night today

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University football program along with the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund have teamed up once again this year to host ‘Tackle Cancer’ night during SMSU’s game today versus Wayne State College. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. at the Schwan Regional Event Center.

The Mustang football program will have a table set up near the front gate to receive donations in the fight against cancer.

The Minnesota Football Coaches Association and the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund supports cancer research and patient aid projects throughout the great state of Minnesota.

The ‘Tackle Cancer’ campaign has raised over $2,000,000 to support Minnesota’s cancer community since 2012.

Randy Shaver is a well-known television anchor with KARE11 in Minneapolis. While his focus has always been on cancer research and the Minnesota cancer community, Shaver’s fight became intensely personal when he himself became a patient. Diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin’s Disease, Shaver’s treatment and subsequent remission have understandably made him even more passionate than ever about finding a cure.
